Point well taken.

I really hope the Dems do grill him on abortion ... I'd like to hear his answers myself.

Though most likely he will decline to speak to the issue.

Roberts is a good Bahamian name. So the Bahamians, if no one else, will probably be pleased with this nomination.

fred barnes doesn't consider this guy a conservative & doesn't like him.

That's not the impression that I had on Brit Hume's show tonight.

Could you be more specific?

In order to do so, we would have to shut down ALL air traffic , as well as all shipping too and build 40 foot high and down below, under ground electrified fences, topped with broken glass and backed by armed guards on a 24 hour basis. That just isn't ever going to happen.

Already been tried, ie; Berlin. Russkies did all that and more.

Guess what. Didn't work.

Now figure trying that with a 2500 mile border. Just the one. Like the man says, not gonna happen. Deal with it.

On the show that aired before the press conference, Kristol generally approved of him. However, Barnes said he would have preferred someone stronger (I forget his actual wording). Mort's response to Barnes' mild displeasure w/this nominee was to say that Fred wanted a judge who was a 'conservative activist'. Barnes, of course, said that wasn't true.

Ernest! He proferred the idea that people shouldn't have the right to make full use of their property since they are only temporary stewards of said property and government should be allowed to over-ride the individual with planning and zoning for the good of all!!! Now what do you call that philosophy???

Well, saying you would prefer someone stronger doesn't mean you dislike them or think they are not conservative at all.

We were all burned by Souter, so I'm not leaping into the air with glee.

However, I am cautiously optimistic that Dubya has learned from the mistakes of his father. Also, I think Dubya is more savvy about people and scoping them out than most anybody else out there, so there isn't anyone I would trust more to get beneath the PR and see the essense of someone.

But even the best people are fallible, so I have been praying for God to grant wisdom and patience to our President.

We don't even have an adequate FENCE along the border, let alone enough border patrols to stop illegal immigrants from coming into the nation. You're telling me nothing can be done about that?

We literally have millions of illegals walking into the country -- any one of which could be terrorist -- unimpeded!

The minutemen are doing more to stop illegals than our government is.

To say nothing more can be done is mindnumbingly dumb.

Google this: "Suitum vs TRPA"

Then you'll understand what I was trying to say in my haste!!! I'm not saying he should be thrown out! I'm saying he'll probably be no better than the Kennedy Judge from Sacramento that was the swing vote on that miserable Emminent Domain decision the other day.

This stuff is in the tradition of Earl Warren and "Cows Don't Vote!" What a disaster that has been for rural America!!!

re:TRPA case

You do realize he was only arguing the case for a client? Hell Ted Olsen was defendeing Matt Cooper last week.

The question for me is: do the cases he handled for Reagan/Bush reflect his views? Or is the TRPA case a better representation of his views? On the surface, I'd think that TRPA would come closer to representing his views, b/c he probably had some choice about taking that case. I assume the govt cases were probably just assigned to him. Does anyone know if that's a correct assumption on my part?

I haven't been here much, lately.
So, I don't how the rumor about Clement was started.

All I have to say is, "Good on ya', Mr. President!
Ya' fooled 'em, again!"

Roberts is a wonderful choice!
