We were all burned by Souter, so I'm not leaping into the air with glee.
However, I am cautiously optimistic that Dubya has learned from the mistakes of his father. Also, I think Dubya is more savvy about people and scoping them out than most anybody else out there, so there isn't anyone I would trust more to get beneath the PR and see the essense of someone.
But even the best people are fallible, so I have been praying for God to grant wisdom and patience to our President.
I say prayers for him too. It looks like our prayers have been answered with his Supreme Court pick.
We better say some prayers for the rest of the Republicans to have a backbone to withstand "the usual" from the democrats.
I don't even think it's a question of "if" the democrats filibuster, it's "when" they filibuster, (or pull some other dirty trick), what will the Republican's do to ensure that Roberts is confirmed?
I do hope the Republicans will take this opportunity to point out yet another profound difference between Republicans and Dems i.e. When the dems claim they want a "moderate" what they mean is that they want a Supreme court nominee who is "moderate" about the Constitution and especially the Bill of Rights.
The dems desire Supreme Court nominees who will set aside the Constitution, and say for example- remove private property rights.
The dems WANT justices just like the ones who took away private property rights.
The Republicans should not hesitate to explain these differences to the American people.
