Roberts sounds like an outstanding pick, but the Ds and their pack of rabid jackals will try hard to brutalize the upcoming confirmation battle. They must be crushed and humiliated - and if they want to lose the filibuster option forever, so be it!!!

Old media people are reporting now that he should fly through, and that the Dems. will behave.

"Paula Zahn looked like she had been stomach punched. She was in shock for a few minutes."

Great news.

Whenever, Ms Z looks like someone kicked her ovaries, the news is good for America and bad for her and other liberals.

Yes, I am more satisfied with this pick than I would have been with Judge Clement, only because there just wasn't sufficient information about her judicial philosophy (and given the fact that there were "better", i.e. known originalists, to choose from.) According to what I've been able to read, Judge Roberts seems to be an originalist, which is all many of us wanted (and expected). By the way.....that sound you just heard was the Gang of 7 RINOs fainting now that they may have to put their money where their mouths are. One of the interesting things to watch will be Senator Specter's handling and questioning of the nomination, I think. I am also heartened that the President decided not to play it safe. The battle for these nominations was going to come at some point. Better to get it over with on the first nominee.....once dealt with, it will make the selection of originalists to fill any additional SCOTUS nominees all that much easier.

1) Bush likely doublecrossed Arlen "Scottish Law" Spector by feeding him a line of mulberry crap about Gonzolez and naming Roberts.

2) Bush tied up the entire news media all day speculating about an ACCEPTABLE woman while he was naming an extraordinary man!

3) Bush has now raised the bar for the Dems to opposed the next pick of a WOMAN to be CJ---Jones perhaps.

4) By moving the court solidly right, he has increased the pressure on Stevens and Ruth Buzzi to beat it. Who wants to be on the losing side all the time? Look for one of them (or both) to bail.

This was beyond a home run. Lindsay Graham was on Hannity talking like Attila the Hun, warning the Dems that they did NOT include a USSC pick as an "extraordinary circumstance."

LOL!!!!!!!! My phone has been RINGING OFF THE HOOK!!!

Tonight, I will take a few minutes to select just the right vintage Cigar, and I will sit here, read a little more about Judge Roberts and relish this fine news.

The atmosphere will be most conducive to dreaming up awesome photoshops for Pookie, the Sunday Bunch and all fellow Freepers.

Leon Panetta was just on OlberDUman and he couldn't find anything bad to say about Roberts. Said just give it some time but he doesn't seem bad..

"So, do you think John Roberts is 'mainstream' enough to be confirmed without a fight from the Dims? ('cause I'd worry about the his judicial quality if confirmation is too easy.) :^]"

Good question...

IF we discover Roberts was "acceptable" to Ted Kennedy (who had a "problem" with Davis Souter of all people), I think we've got a problem.

The post-selection assessment from Dems in the next day or so ought to be quite interesting.

What is a pink triangle?

Homosexuals ride it. It's their emblem. It means "queer."

"Roe v. Wade is the settled law of the land. ... There is nothing in my personal views that would prevent me from fully and faithfully applying that precedent."

This is what an Appellant judge should do -- follow the law. A USSC justice, on the other hand, gets to make the final guess.

Most of those idiots couldn't even name another Nazi besides Hitler.

If you asked them for another they'd say "George W. Bush".

What the DUmmies don't understand is that when you're always screaming at 10 setting, you come off like a loon and no one takes you seriously.

This is going to be good! Let the hearings begin NOW.

I want to see Teddy, Chucky, Babbs, Layhe (spelling?), etc. have that nuculear meltdown.

Hopefully the Republican senators have dusted off their lead suits to protect themselves from the Democrapic radioactive decay.

Right here! Suprised...time will tell. Looks good. Predict the Dems won't fight that much, because the court is still the same balance. Even so, all this is deck chairs on the Titaninc.
