TICK TOCK...............
President Bush as of yet has not broken his promise. You emotional basket case. You are ready to lynch the man before you even know the nominee. Take a walk or something!
Edith Hollan Jones is sure thing. Clement isn't. Jones needs to be the pick unless the Republicans want to risk another Souter-like disaster that won't be forgotten or forgiven.
"Keep your fingers crossed and hope Bush nominated Edith Hollan Jones."
Is there a picture and background on her?
W/o that info it's impossible to decide.
I still remember walking to the Halloween rally for the President at Great American Ball Park (I'll be there tonight BTW, so no Free Republic for me at 9pm) and seeing members of the black community holding up signs against gay marriage and saying "Adam & Eve, not Adam & Steve!" (Although, to be honest, I voted against that amendment as I thought it was way too broadly worded.)
LOL
We at least know she is a woman of faith, what with being a follower ofthe Reverend Fletcher and all.
Serious question, as I truly do not know the answer. Are there any writings by the Founders concerning abortion and their positions on it?
Felcher!
LOL. She does have a lot of those, that's for sure. I've never read any of them cuz the subject doesn't interest me. A search at the 5th circuit site shows that she's written 85 opinions, maybe 20 are seamen-related cases. Search "EDITH BROWN CLEMENT, Circuit Judge" here if you care to browse.
she joins in dissents with Edith Jones most of the time.
Yup. She joined the dissent from denial of rehearing en banc in the GDF Realty commerce clause case, a very Thomas-like dissent. That dissent alone makes her okay in my book.
Let's pray Bush has the sense to name Jones tonight. If he does, he will have an enthusiastic base behind him, which is something he really could use at this point of his Presidency.
"Whatever"...:-)
From all I have read, I'd say the President chickened out on his Scalia/Thomas promise if he chooses Clement over Jones.
*Snort*
"Sean wrote a book? That changes everything. I may now have to support a fillibuster by the democrats of Edith."
I agree that not every author is smart. But frankly, I'd like Hannity to be our 2008 president. And he'd win if he ran, too.
Bump to read after lunch
Untrue.
We have indications of voting patterns on some key issues. The area that is vague that I know you are refering to is R V W.
And, again, it isn't R v W I have a specific interest in at the moment. That is a distracting point. I wish to know how she feels about established precedent as a member of the Supreme Court. If we can deduce her position on that, we'll know her opinion on individual cases such as R V W.
And, yes, we know based on Judicial record to date where Edith Jones stands at this time. That isn't a point of discussion.
Yes, look at the stealth Catholic on the court -- Anthony Kennedy. Not reassuring.
