ABC News Radio-10:00 CST-Bush has decided on Supreme Court nominee. Spector called to WH tonight to discuss. Expected to be "mainstream".
Pardon me for butting in, but what did I miss here?
"He will nominate Spector "
Oh No!!!!! We have to call 007.
"It's either Luttig or Roberts. Any other guesses?"
Jones or Brown. With Luttig as a number 3 pick.
But Estrada is coming up on the outside, 4 lengths back.
JOHN BOLTON!!!!
I'm thinking this is a semantics game...the President is trying to co-opt the word "mainstream" and choose a conservative, indicating that that *is* mainstream.
I agree with you. He's talking "mainstream", but the nominee will be fairly conservative. I think he will choose a conservative woman, but who knows.
I wouldn't read too much into the word "mainstream" or anything else that ABC reports for that matter.
Would you expect either the President or ABC news to come out announcing that he's expected to nominate an arch conservative? I don't think so.
His appellate picks have been conservatives.
He was also Ira Einhorn's defense attorney.
They Announced It!!!!!
The nominee to the Supreme Court of the United States is...
Jamie Gorelick!!!!
YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
/ok had to give the libs some hope.
TV trivia: Remember her (Edith Bunker) maiden name?
Baines (I had to look it up)
Spector is about as useful as Dead Kennedy. The great defense attorney who helped the Unicorn Killer flee for 20 years from justice in America.
I hope this information as to a nomination of Spector is incorrect. President Bush should know better if this is the case. NSNR
Why are you listening to the media? Specter is the head of the judiciary committee and he owes Bush a HUGE favor. Specter would almost certainly have lost his seat in the PA primary if it weren't for the president's endorsement. Bush has nominated a conservative and RINO judiciary chairman Specter owes him big time.
Unless the Senate decides to cut its recess short, Part 6 of Senate Rule XXXI provides that all nominations active before August 1 will be returned to the President on September 5.
The operative language is, "if the Senate shall adjourn or take a recess for more than thirty days, all nominations pending and not finally acted upon at the time of taking such adjournment or recess shall be returned by the Secretary to the President, and shall not again be considered unless they shall again be made to the Senate by the President."
The nominations that are out of committee are also returned to the President, as "out of committee" is not "finally acted upon." An alternative hinted at above is thatteh Senate cut its recess short of 31 days. That would have the side benefit of preserving the half-dozen circuit court nominations that are presently stalled in the Senate.
I know I'm coming in late here. If this nominee is acceptable to Spector, I'm scared.
A Justice Walken live feed would be the most popular thing ever! The man just simply rules.
Bwah hah hah hah hah...
Oh, to have been a fly on the wall :)
Sorry,Hatch does not even have the backbone to protect an Aide who was doing their job and discovered a Kennedy memo(NAACP) concerning a delay tactic in appointing a judge. This would insure a ruling on affirmative action at Michigan State University (Quotas) would remain in affect.
The Aide who discoverd the memo was either fired or resigned for doing his job by Sir Hatch.
I believe Presidnt Bush should appoint the best qualified judge who represents what America stands for and leave denominations out.
We need a man or woman who has integrity, principle, honor, temperance, fortitude, prudence and justice.
My post is not meant to be disrespectful only to illuminate the true light of Orin Hatch. NSNR
I just drove through Utah a few weeks ago. The feds can have it. I wouldn't want it.
