No Funeral Plans for Bill Clinton, Plenty for Jimmy Carter - (why does this strike me funny?)

All living ex-presidents have filed plans for a state funeral except Bill Clinton.
The Washington Military District, which oversees state funerals, invites ex-presidents to file plans as soon as they leave office. But as yet Clinton who had a heart scare last year - has not submitted his funeral requests, according to documents obtained by the New York Post.
An aide to Clinton described him as an "optimist" who plans to be around for a while.
On the other hand, Jimmy Carter has spelled out plans for his funeral in intricate detail. During his presidency Carter was criticized for his micro-managing every aspect of the White House and even controlled the schedule for the White House tennis court.
Now the former Navy officer is leaving nothing to chance with his farewell ceremony and has even specified the movements of his remains, box lunches, press arrangements, escorts and dark umbrellas for his family and even a demand that soldiers can't have steel-tipped shoes.
Some of the details of the funeral plans obtained by the Post include:
George H.W. Bush, 81, wants to be buried at his presidential library in College Station, Texas. His plans comprise 211 pages, and ask for a tactical fighter flyover at his funeral. Bush does not want "Hail to the Chief" played at his burial.
Gerald Ford, 92, also wants to be buried at his presidential library, which is in Grand Rapids, Mich. His plans take up 491 pages.
Jimmy Carter's requested burial place has not been revealed. The 80-year-old ex-president's plans, which total 411 pages, request special index cards to record floral tributes at his funeral. All three former chief executives apparently want to have their funeral services at the National Cathedral in Washington.

Perhaps a morbid thought, but considering the ages of the former presidents, the next state funerals may be too close together to engage the nation as did Ronald Reagan's. Certainly Carter's and Clinton's will probably be days to feel sympathy for those who really care for them and to mourn what might have been if they had been better men. It will be interesting watching how hard the media will have to work to find these two men's positive aspects.

The plans are incomplete. The big problem is figuring how to get the casket lid shut. He's still, "Doing the work of the American people".
Or was that, "To The American People"?

Why have a funeral? It'll just make Hillary look bad.It would be a great October Surprise for her to preside over his funeral with a couple of weeks to go in the campaign. She would look very presidential organizing a state funeral while grieving.
Bill, I never voted for you, but even I would recommend you stay out of airplanes the last month of her campaign. Just lie low out somewhere doing tzunami relief from a beach hotel.

Clinton Funeral Plan: Insert 1 corkscrew into ground. Remove. Insert Clinton, because he is so crooked it will take a corkscrew to safely lay him to rest.

I had the misfortune of reading some liberal blogs over the weekend, they struck me as over the top angry and full of hate filled speech. While I have my own criticisms of all the former Presidents, some very minor, others more substantive, these men were all elected to our highest office in the land. As a military officer, I salute the office of the President and while I have my favorites (like President Reagan who awarded me my commission) I really understand the humor of some of these posts, but I also salute the men who served in this office.
Everyone of these men deserves the salute of a grateful nation, regardless of our political leanings. You can despise them, oppose them, or just not like them, but I salute the American people and our way of life for granting us the ability to choose.
Just some thoughts...

Thank you for your service. We should give tremendous respect to the office and even to those who held it, with GWB setting the latest example. However, when a former president actively works to undermine the foreign policy of the sitting president, when he gives aid and comfort to our enemies, then my FRiend, with all due respect, that former president has lost all claim to any respect from the people of this great nation.

Well, bray, I normaly respect the office of the POTUS, but these two have just lead me clear off the reservation. I have a hard time respecting them as persons, let alone as elected leaders of the most exceptional nation in Earth's history.
