Its worse than that. Ebonics has long been a way for blacks to communicate with each other to the exclusion of the "white man". the slang was utilized to keep whites from "knowin their bidnez". The "in" talk that only they understand. As soon as white mainstream people were understanding a word, the word was changed to something else so whites would stay out of the culture. How are schools going to teach a language which constantly changes and the purpose of which is to never be understood. It perpetuates a hostile subculture, making it all but impossible to communicate to that group through its language. Urban blacks do not trust whites, and have no desire to be part of the dominant society or culture. The ghetto is the only reality and validity.

Just read an article in Sundays Paper [Hartford Courant] [front page] "Can Whites Teach Black Students"? I kid you not, they are saying that whites should not be allowed to teach Blacks because they have no ability to empathize with the culture of the minority population in the school system! I would like to post it but my computor skills are a little limited.

You should hear blacks talk about the 'secret money' the Koreans or other internationals get when they come to this country.

The same is true of lower class and some blue collar whites, who seem to believe that Mexicans, Arabs, Indians, Cubans, etc. are all given cars and free houses by the government, as well as their own businesses to run. Even SBA loans can't guarantee a thriving business.

Actually that was mentioned in the article about Blacks being able to relate to Whites and Asians and apparently that is O.K. with the multiculturalists, its only the White Teachers that seem to have a problem!

Huge hearts is not enough to raise/ teach kids. Kids need structure and excellence demanded of them. They will rise to a hard challenge and like it. Otherwise you get sentimentalism and dim-witted feel-good stuff, self-esteem drivel, hugging BAD kids, etc.

I am a teacher and a parent. That kind of training RUINS children, I think. And, as a woman, I will say -- it's women doing it, for the most part. tsk tsk.

I personally believe immersion is the best way to teach a new language, be it Standard English or a new language. I studied English grammar every year, didn't you? Those kinks all get ironed out as you learn about subjects/ verbs and so forth.
