FYI
For later
Hey when simple nearby lightning bolt can knock out PCs we know that an EMP will put a complete halt to civilization as we know it. Lightning only 1/4 mile away wrecks havoc on today's LAN (local area network) wiring and in-turn the PC damage from there in. As the circuitry gets faster it gets denser and smaller and even more susceptable to EMP damage.
We will not be able to buy gas or buy groceries, etc because everything has a chip in it.
Nuclear subs are immune to EMP. Immune.
Very thorough research, joanie--thanks for the good work.
IMO, the lack of focus on the EMP scenario is one of our leaderships most deadly oversights.
I agree China is a very, very serious threat.
I'll bookmark for later reading.

Nice work Joanie, interesting how much danger we face
TODAY because of the actions of just TWO democrat Presidents.

Our strategy has to be based on immediate response.
An EMF attack isn't going to affect subs off the coast of China, and the Chinese need to know that any nuclear attack will result in the annihilation of their military. The response needs to be quick and automatic, because obviously if we have time to think about it, we have time for nuclear blackmail to have its effect.
And we have to let them know that an attack from North Korea will be viewed as an attack by China, and responded to in the very same way.
But frankly, our support for Taiwan, in any case, will be limited. Our military is no longer designed to sustain a war with China. At one time we were manned for a so-called "2-1/2 war" scenario, in which theoretically we could take on the Soviets, the Chinese, and the Cubans simultaneously.
Those days are long gone. Now a war with a Cuba-sized military is all we can handle.

I may be crazy but I see an internal attack by the muslims (nuclear) and then a piling on by the Chinese. I wouldn't be suprised if the two aren't working together. We are in serious trouble and no one seems to be addressing the problem. We are wide open to internal attack despite the much hearlded Homeland Security that seems to be aimed more at controlling American citizens than guarding the country.
This week's threats from Red China, the recent joint China and Russia statements, the continuing massive Chinese military buildup...all of these point towards the inescapable conclusion that the time has long since past that we confront the truth about Red China and act accordingly.
End the coddling, end the coziness, revoke the foolish permanent favorite nation status, end the massive deficit spending and economic drueling over a potential that does not exist, never has existed, and was been created in the midns of certain politicians and economic leaders of this nation (and the entire west) for the express purpose of putting us in the position we are currently in...and worse.
Treat Red China the way Reagen treated and brought down the Soviet evil empire, and do it forthwith. It will be painful, but not nearly as painful as the consequences of failing to do so.
Ok, so, laying aside the Clinton treason for the moment, the fact exists that China has this technology now. If just this info can be put together to come up with the worrying conclusions seen above by the public, how much more info must the Government have which is not public, to generate an even more detailed report. Given that, what is the administration doing about this? They can't be simply sitting on their hands hoping it will go away. Bush must know that, terrorism aside, this threat is real and will eventually have to be dealt with.
So, we have the Chinese with the capability to launch one missile that produces a large enough EMP to allow them to lob the other 19 or so missile at us with impunity. We can certainly match them 10 times over for sheer destructiveness, but that won't make the craters on US soil any smaller. Certainly, any conflict with China isn't going to involve much in the way of a land war, so the condition of our ground troops isn't as much of an issue as some would make it. However, just what do we have in place that would give the PLA and PLAAF second thoughts about pulling something like this?
As much as big weapon systems get derided as wastes of money for pie-in-the-sky results, we may need more than a few on our side if we want to keep this situation from escalating.
bttt for later read. BTW EMP is a real threat.
The Chicoms are indeed an odd-thinking bunch but their reach for military strength is understandable. The task at hand is to figure what their strategic purposes in building it might actually be. The Chicom prosperity of the last third century (the great leap forward) is due in huge part to our willingness to be their best customer. W/O the USA as a customer (suddenly) China would revert instantly to a 19th century economy. Can someone remind me of a time when Chinese were suicidal? W/O the USA as a customer their commercial fleet would have to stay home. China mines coal but beyond that it has to haul fuel. There are enough US fast attack subs in the Pacific at any moment to send their fleet back to the ROWBOAT DYNASTY.
Who thinks the Ching family, et al, would suddenly be willing to give up their reefer or their computer (94 million PC's on line in China now)? As Gertz notes the task is to dope out how they might ACTUALLY use their MILPOWER?
