Not too long ago, Labrador retrievers were considered a tad exotic. In the 1950s, the sporty mid-size breed was a suburban rarity, popular mainly among upper-crust Anglophiles who liked the idea of owning a dignified hunting dog. Today, however, Labs are the Levi's jeans of purebred dogs. They've topped the American Kennel Club's list of registered canines for 12 years straight. And not just topped, but dominated: The number of registered Labs is nearly three times the number of golden retrievers, the second most popular dog on the list

Best dog I ever knew was a black lab named Cleo. She was friendly without being slobbery, loved being with you and petted, but would be equally happy just being there quietly.

Not my sweet Kate! Oh, only if the temps are below 90, LOL!
They shed a ton, but they are the best friendliest dogs you could have. I could take a steak bone from them and they wouldn't argue. And they are tough dogs. Joey went at a pit bull in the park once full on because he didn't like the way the pit bull looked at him as they passed. My guy won that day.
"I am a neutered male ...."
Does the dog's wife have to consent to the placement?
I have an Akita I would not trade for ten Labs.
In the CT area, adopt a lab HERE: http://www.labs4rescue.com/
I volunteer with this outfit. They do good work.
Your guy was long lived and he looked great in that shot. I miss my guys. Someone get me a beer and a kleenex, quick.
(German Shepherd ping.)
Nope, sorry; there will never be a better breed than a German Shepherd!
I'd own 5-6 pound puppies instead of the two I have, the best being a lab/hound mix. Just can't convince the wife but I plan to get another someday for all our annual upland bird walks.
Ours will do that and if not satisfied come closer, sit up, and pat me on my leg with her paw.
My ol best friend was a HUGE black lab I named Frisbee ... for obvious reasons. I all most named him "turnup" cause I was working on my car in the garage one day and he just "turned up" ... and never left. I sure miss him ... he died some years age after a long and joyful life
I feel your pain. I'm in a similar situation with my lab/chessie mix, she's not in pain, but I can tell the end is near.
Right ater I finished adopting my dog he ran into the bed room and made a nest at the head of the bed. For the last three years what was my bed has become OUR bed, with it being mostly HIS.
True love is about sharing.

Know the feeling, my Kate was diagnosed with cancer, hypothyroidism and cushings disease within the past two years. Every day that she's with us is a blessing!
OES are just about the stupidest dog imaginable..We had one for 9 years..sweet, loving, great with kids, and a self propelled-accident in the house...never had to wash the kitchen floor in a decade..we just moved the water bowl to diffeent parts of the room...And on the leash for a walk....forget it...she'd step in something with THREE paws...then come back and step in it with the one she missed. I finally figured out why they have all that hair across their eyes..If they could see, they'd be near-lethal..
