There has been an explosion at Aldgate East underground station in London, causing the closure of the entire Tube network.
There are also reports that a second incident took place at Edgware Road station in north west London.
The Aldgate East blast was caused by "some kind of power surge", according to Tube infrastructure company Metronet, which is responsible for maintaining the Metropolitan line.
A spokesman said: "We don't know the extent of the problem yet."
A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We have just sent some resources out to the scene."
British Transport Police confirmed that there are "walking wounded" and said paramedics have responded to one report of a person classed as "life at risk".
"It's chaos, with people trying to work out what has happened," said a spokesman.
"All we know at the moment is that staff reported a loud bang at 8.49am. No one is sure what caused an explosion, but it is thought it could have been a collision, a power cut, or a power cable problem."
One witness said the packed underground train he was on was 200 metres from Kings Cross when there was a huge flash.
The train stopped and people were using umberellas to smash windows of the trains. Passengers were led out of the train by underground staff.
He added people were milling around Kings Cross covered in soot.
That had to have been a very powerful bomb, judging by the collateral damage in that pic.
Chirac looks like he's thinking "now, now...let's not be hasty".
"We shall prevail and they shall not" Tony Blair
Blair back on with G-8 Statement. He is not as shakey as before...
W looks pissed and ready to kick some A!
The Frog looks bored...
Hmmmm, I looked at your map and compared it to the old one I saved from 1989, when I came over to help marry off a cousin......I wonder why they didn't go after any of the southern and western connecting stations, like the Embankment/Charing Cross and Victoria Station? South Kensington or Gloucester Road would have been likewise odious, involving numbers of Underground routes. They've left everyone living in the West End and across the river free to go home, if the authorities will reopen those routes to the west -- the Central and Victoria lines look mostly unmolested. And they left the Jubilee and Bakerloo lines completely alone.
Not to give anyone ideas, but it looks like most people will be home at the usual hour, if they just leave a little early -- unless the Metro people keep the trains completely shut down, looking for more bombs.
Blair up again, flanked by GW and Chirac(!).
I just saw video clip on ABC of President Bush in a meeting at the G8 where a member of his detail approaches, whispers in his ear, and he rises and leaves the meeting. It was said he was then briefed on the first reports out of London.
So reminiscent of 9/11.
President Bush to the immediate right of Mr. Blair.
Not from me...

Near simultaneous explosions rocked at least five London subway stations and ripped apart a double-decker bus at the morning rush hour Thursday, police said, causing at least two deaths, reportedly injuring at least 95 people and sending bloodied victims fleeing from debris-strewn blast sites. I will suspend judgement until I see the tape; as I had said, I only heard it.

I prefer listening to President Bush's great speeches - State of the Union, etc - first on radio. Sometimes the message in anyone's tone of voice is quite different from the message as seen. President Bush in particular, sounds so positive on air.
I'm sure your impression of Blair's shakiness is accurate, but I cannot imagine all of the stress on him at this time.
Prayers for him, his family, and all loyal UK residents.
Jimbo, she cannot possibly have actually said anything CLOSE to that on national TV, could she have?
Just returned from walking my dog. My neighbors are flying their flags. Solidarity.
Thanks.I guess it really was just a terrible coincidence.
He's disgusting. When France is hit, remind me to be sympathetic.
They come home tomorrow! Thanks
So does anyone think the G-8 will put the WOT on their agenda?
Look at Bush's face.
More than the face of sympathy and solidarity.
Black man in the background looking at everything but Blair.
LOL!
