There has been an explosion at Aldgate East underground station in London, causing the closure of the entire Tube network.
There are also reports that a second incident took place at Edgware Road station in north west London.
The Aldgate East blast was caused by "some kind of power surge", according to Tube infrastructure company Metronet, which is responsible for maintaining the Metropolitan line.
A spokesman said: "We don't know the extent of the problem yet."
A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We have just sent some resources out to the scene."
British Transport Police confirmed that there are "walking wounded" and said paramedics have responded to one report of a person classed as "life at risk".
"It's chaos, with people trying to work out what has happened," said a spokesman.
"All we know at the moment is that staff reported a loud bang at 8.49am. No one is sure what caused an explosion, but it is thought it could have been a collision, a power cut, or a power cable problem."
One witness said the packed underground train he was on was 200 metres from Kings Cross when there was a huge flash.
The train stopped and people were using umberellas to smash windows of the trains. Passengers were led out of the train by underground staff.
He added people were milling around Kings Cross covered in soot.
I've heard there have been some evacuations of stations in Swindon and Brighton. Probably false alarms though.
Hopefully there's not more attacks to come.
DAMN TO HELL WHOEVER DID THIS.
Amen
BBC reporting that AQ European group claiming responsibility with 200 word statement on Islamic web site.
I suspect the attacks are related to the trial of Abu Hamza which opened in London yesterday.IIRC, some terrorist was supposed to be sentenced near the WTC the morning of 9/11.I hadn't heard that yet, but that does seem very likely.

Yes, please keep the reports of the jihadaist sites coming. I have to leave to get ready for church in a while, but others will benefit from your reporting and I do thank you.
I don't think they have a clue how many people could be trapped underground.
FWIW...quiet here in S. Korea right now.
I know the Prime Minister will do a splendid job at that! May all the terrorists get the chance to rot in hell very soon. What a terrible way to start the day.
Have they stopped public services in any other part of the country?
I don't think anyone doubts that Blair will respond to this with swift, unmerciful fury. His reputation preceeds him on matters of national defense.
This is a little off-topic, but there's one person who could benefit from a strong, public response...Prince Charles. He could redeem himself immeasurably in the eyes of his countrymen by standing beside Blair, endorsing a tough response and sharing the duty of visiting hospitals, attending funerals, etc. I've always thought his was a wasted role with his squishy choices of causes. He has an opportunity here to present himself as a bold defender of England...we'll see if he takes it.
It would be a classy move if Major League Baseball and other public events were to play the British anthem instead of our anthem for just this one night.
It's long shot... and tedious work, but worth reviewing.
Convinces me more than ever that it was AQ.
"Credit"...indeed.
God Bless the Brits.
