Hearing on Fox News
It is probably true that social conservatives are sometimes too purist for their own good.
The fact that their participation in politics is largely driven by issues relating to the moral foundation of our nation naturally makes social conservatives less able to compromise than those who are primarily concerned about, for instance, tax policy.
But if it were true that everything had to be 100% "our way," very few of us would still be Republicans.
Right, and don't miss reading xs's post for first person information on the nominees.

What's up with you Willie?
Bush is going to be under tremendous pressure to backfill O'Connor with another woman.
Janice Rogers Brown is an obvious possibility, and I would love to see the RATS and their media handmaidens oppose a black woman to the USSC.
What other strict constructionist women are out there on the appellate courts?
July 8th. We won't hear anything until then. We may or may not have a pick until after the summer recess too.
On the other hand, nominating Janice Rogers Brown would undoubtedly inspire Box-O-Rox to place a hold on her nomination. That would be GREAT!! This SCOTUS comfirmation battle will dominate the news -- remember, we didn't have as much cable news and internet action as we do now. We WANT a full-scale political war fought out publicly to show the people of the country (not just the political junkies) what a bunch of wingnuts and lunatics have taken over the 'Rat Party.
Won't happen today or this weekend because he has too much class than to steal O'Connor's moment. I would bet he waits at least a week.
LOL! Well, good luck.
We will have a long wait...he won't pick a justice until after July 8:
"The White House said he would not decide before returning from Europe July 8.
Bush will consult with Republican and Democratic senators about his selection, and will talk with them on the flight to Denmark next Tuesday and during his stay Wednesday through Friday at the summit of leading industrialized nations, in Gleneagles, Scotland, said presidential spokesman Scott McClellan."
OK, and Warner is senior to Allen. I get it now. Thanks.
Thanks, that's the post that made me go back and look at yours. I read FR from bottom to middle to top on threads like this.
Thanks for that information. I'll be surprised if the president waits that long.
My guess is he's make a nomination before he heads out for the G8 summit so he won't have to listen to the rants from the left. Hah!
My qualifications: I'm an originalist with a baseball bat - first person who quotes foreign law gets whacked upside the head.
LOL! Very witty.
"Why don't you just say what you mean instead of calling people names? That's a liberal tactic."
Oh good grief......here we go.......
I never called anyone any names. I said Cajungirl was ignorant. She called me a jerk! And you said you "HATE PEOPLE, blah, blah, blah."
Have a great Day! And try NOT to HATE!
You are correct, but also because we're hoping that this will nudge Rehnquist, which would simpify the entire nominating process.
Begin with elevating Scalia to chief justice, and backfill from there.
I agree. Total lack of a "principled stand." Pure ego. They left Bork "holding the bag." That's what I find so disgusting, and a bad rap for Bork.
Ugh.
McCain on Fox saying he thinks "the agreement" will HOLD and there won't be a filibuster!
I wouldn't be surprised to see Rehnquist wait until O'Connor's slot has been filled to make certain that Bush can get an originalist on the court. But I have no evidence to support that claim.
