A nomination won't be forthcoming today, imo, because the president has too much class to make it look like he's too anxious.

Won't happen today or this weekend because he has too much class than to steal O'Connor's moment. I would bet he waits at least a week.

You are correct, but also because we're hoping that this will nudge Rehnquist, which would simpify the entire nominating process.

Begin with elevating Scalia to chief justice, and backfill from there.
