Matthews: Why are people in this part of the country more patriotic and supportive of the war?
Dr. Jerry Sutton: (Pastor, Baptist Church) The issue is not God on our side, but are we on God's side. Conservative Christians believe that President Bush believes in what's right, and we pray for him every day and we believe God is leading him.
Matthews: If Clinton/Albright was fighting this war, would you support the war?
Dr. Sutton: Our people are also patriotic. The war is a response to 9/11, the Taliban and the militant islamic movement and if we can bring democracy, sure, we'd support that. If the insurgents would stop, we'd leave.
Matthews: You mean the insurgents are stupid. Audience laughs.

That's McCain's biggest problem He does ok...for a little while...then..he spins suddenly out of control. I don't trust cars that do that and I don't trust politicians that do it. Preach it! Preach it!

CNN bringing on 2 soldiers next..one who supports the Pres and one who didn't from the very beginning. This is the worst I think I've seen CNN and that's pretty bad.

The guy isn't on. After he finished, Matthews noted he is a popular person in that part of the country. Wish I knew who he was, but I was channel surfing.
The guy was as passionate a defender of the president, the country and hated the media and spoke very, very well and it resonated with the crowd, some of whom stood up cheering.

But Campaign Carl put a slightly-different spin on the talking points - the staffers that started clapping were "exuberant", not the "rile-'em-up" types the alphabet soup is saying. He also pointed out that the troops were having a hard time keeping their enthusiasm in check and jumped at the opportunity to applaud.

CNN has a poll on whether or not we approve of the way the President is handling the war lower right hand side. 74% saying NO.
