I would have like to hear President Bush say tonight: "Some people are criticizing me for repeating the same old story on Iraq-- well the reason I do is because I meant what I said then and I still mean it now. I don't take a poll to decide how to protect the American people and I'm not gonna change my story just because some people are bored with the hard work of freedom."

Or something like, "Some people are criticizing me for repating the same old story on Iraq - well, the reason I do is that instead of telling that story, those same people tell you a pack of lies."

Get ready for "9/11 gate" where the Bush administration is still trying to tie Iraq to the attacks on 9/11/01. Dunno if Applausegate will gain any legs.

It sure looked stupid, and I noticed from all the posts that several different networks simultaneously broke the news that the only applause was instigated by an advance team member's apparently spontaneous applause. Nope, no coordination THERE.

In fact, isn't ODD that all the different networks are now harping on the administration's frequent reminders of 9/11?

In fact, there was nothing new in the speech ('course not, he's been laying out the same darned plan for two years), and a Bush team member applauded first and he keeps referring to 9/11...so ....WAS HE BEING STRAIGHT WITH THE AMERICAN PEOPLE?

C-Span is rerunning the President's speech. I had to leave Fox News due to Charlie Rangle and Alan Colmes trying to undo the good the President did with his speech.

How do they sleep at night?

I watched him with the Marines on the West Coast a few months ago. He truly feels for our GIs and their families, I believe. A few minutes ago when he was at a loss for words he blurted out that "it is much easier (for him) to argue politics than find the right words." He could be carrying some guilt for doing a little creative dodging years ago.

People using the word, "quagmire," hope to bypass facts and analysis and cause the kneejerk "feeling" that Iraq = Vietnam.

I'm astounded when people give John McCain a pass

My anger runs very deep with that man and very few get me to run for the remote quicker than when he appears. Unfortunately tonight I should have stayed with foxnews to hear Sean give him a "what for" regarding the nuclear option and have him squirm. Finally a voice of reason -- Gingrich on foxnews! He said people will sense from the speech a calm steady purpose.

Agreed.

I could have expressed this thought a bit better, but I guess my attempt at diplomacy was a bit TOO veiled. Conversly, Because one serves in the Military, does not guarantee that they are selfless and or an opportunist. I.E......

Kerry, Clark, MacArthur, McPain, McClellan.

"How many times have you heard "The American people are not supporting this war so much anymore..." in the last few days"

I heard that more than I can say, and yet I have yet to meet a single person who has "changed their mind" about the war in this way. Same ole, same ole, they tried during the campaigns.

One thing you don't have to worry about is Hardball getting good ratings. I think it's on for comic relief, and if yfou look at the numbers, so few are watching, Matthews could do it nekkid and no one except us few political junkies would even know.

McCain is now on CNN, doing a little better in support of the President.
