"The spirit of the times may alter, will alter. Our rulers will become corrupt, our people careless. A single zealot may commence persecutor, and better men be his victims. It can never be too often repeated that the time for fixing every essential right on a legal basis is while our rulers are honest and ourselves united. From the conclusion of [their] war [for independence, a nation begins] going down hill. It will not then be necessary to resort every moment to the people for support. They will be forgotten, therefore, and their rights disregarded. They will forget themselves but in the sole faculty of making money, and will never think of uniting to effect a due respect for their rights. The shackles, therefore, which shall not be knocked off at the conclusion of [that] war will remain on [them] long, will be made heavier and heavier, till [their] rights shall revive or expire in a convulsion."
--Thomas Jefferson: Notes on Virginia Q.XVII, 1782.

"Public use and utilities were the precedent before. Now, they can tear down your house to put up a strip mall."
Let me tell you about a town named Bellwood, a near-west suburb of Chicago where the Orwellian mayor, "Big-Brother" Frank Pasquale, has decided to run some of the industry out of town (several functioning businesses employing numerous people) in lieu of a shopping mall (which isn't needed) and some cheaply built retirement "slums". He's going mad with setting up one TIF district after another.
The residents there should see what is happening in nearby DesPlaines and Downers Grove where their TIF projects are failing and costing big money. No problem... raise the property taxes to compensate.
Pasquale has yet to achieve more than 30% occupancy in his last strip mall project a few years ago.

Re holdonnow - please ask him about the following too.
He needs to advise how come the AMA is making laws without using the legal process for lawmaking that will put them in the position of evaluating whether each of us is "qualified" to continue living or to have care withdrawn?
Who made the AMA the elite of the country with the ability to take away the constitutional rights of American citizens and deny them medical care based on their judgements?

I don't think you are the only one.
You know, in the 1700's they didn't have the internet. They had to meet in person.

Hopefully there will be some brave Americans that use the 2nd Amendment to enforce their Constitutional rights to private property ownership against government entities that try to make hay on this disaster of a Supreme Court decision.
"2nd Amendment? What is this 2nd amendment you speak of? We've already stricken that from the books, all firearms are interstate commerce." says the Black 5.

The right to life is also in doubt with the TS case. That case had little if anything to do with the right to life. It had everything to do with deciding who speaks for a person when that person is unable to speak for herself.

Buying homes in established residential areas carry zero risk. This decision sucks, but please don't scare people into thinking the government is about to seize everyone's homes. Not true. The "land use commmittee" in my city just designated my low density, well established residential area as "mixed use". That means a property can be purchased, bulldozed and replaced with a commercial business. The "committee" and city council are owned by the local property developers. My next door neighbor purchased the house over his back fence, bulldozed it and put up a 4 story commercial building to house 4 businesses. My view of the mountains is now mostly obliterated. The occupants of the building have an unobstructed view of my whole backyard. The dark skies I have enjoyed for a few years to observe meteor showers will be overcome by the parking lot lighting for 24 parking spaces in this new commercial building. My property value has been diminished for the enrichment of my neighbor and the city tax coffers.
This ruling would permit my idiot neighbor to petition the city council to seize my home and hand it over to my idiot neighbor for expansion of his business interests. The precedent has been made in my city and the Supreme Court ruling removes all the restraints. Piss off a real estate developer who owns the city council and your home is getting the bulldozer.

As with all gov't. actions anymore it's very devious way to create a conflict that can facilitate gaining jurisdiction.....all cloaked in legalese and procedure we've never been privy to learning. True, very true.
But all contracts are legally refutable if they lack;
KNOWLEDGE of a contract
CONSENT to the contract
and
FULL DISCLOSURE on the contract of all the terms.
Unfortunately, you have to KNOW there IS a contract before you can refute it.
(Not to mention that USPS general delivery is NOT *legal* notification)

Yep, my lib dem sister was on the same page as I on this issue. We never ever agree on politics.
I don't see them negotiating any longer. Just go straight to the courts and condemn your property. They have attorneys on retainer, they just get to earn their salaries now.

Yep. When even presidential elections only get a 50% turnout we are in trouble. And you are entirely correct about local ones. No one seems to care until it is too late.
Wonder what percentage of Freepers vote? And what percentage vote EVERY TIME? Even though my vote is meaningless in the RATruled City of Chicago I go to the polls every time and make sure that at least one vote will not be for the RAT machine.
To: AntiGuv
Hey AntiGuv, part of the first Jefferson quote really caught my eye...
"The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions, that I wish it to be always kept alive."
We should take that as his will and as one of this country's Founding Fathers, we should see it as an obligation to fulfill his will.
Hmmm....
