Hugh just had a caller that said that he thinks that the dems think that the only way they are going to get back in power is to Vietnamize Iraq and the WOT---

By calling it a quagmire, and calling for the troops to come home, and have Durbin up giving these types of speeches..you get the public (like the are doing, if you believe the polls) to change their minds about the war...and bring home the troops, with their "tails between their legs" like the did in Vietnam...

Then the Dems will come to the rescue....he said the dems are going for the long ball, it is the only play they have left....

Hugh says that with the internet and cable channels, the electorate won't buy it, but when I saw on TV today, that even Fox's poll showed only like 39% of Americans think the war in Iraq is worth it....it gets very scary...

"I only wish I could post IT here, but value my posting privileges too much to put them at risk."

ROFL! Just don't make anything resembling a physical threat. I hear they'd send Feds on you in a heart beat. FRegards....

Support for a war can jump up in a heart beat. We aren't taking any initiative at the moment, at least none large enough for us to see. The moment Bush takes bold initiative, support would jump up insto-presto.

I'm glad that the polls make the war look so unpopular. Then the rats get emboldened. That helps explain why Durbin went so nuts. Cockroaches dancing in the kitchen when the lights are out.

On the other hand, if Bush just sits there, letting his troops be targets in a shooting gallery, then it will continue to erode. At some point, even initiative would not boost the polls.

No threats from little old me. Hell, I'm just a chicken farmer and truckpatch veggie peddler from Arkansas. The gist was that I thought a seat on the edge of a lower bunk in the dankest, darkest cell in Leavenworth would fit his a$$ better than a seat in the senate. No harm there, I presume.

I wonder if the Dems will use this issue for 2006.

Fred Barnes and Mort Kondrake were just on with Hugh--and they were discussing the War in Iraq..

They pointed out how much the MSM is playing a role in framing the war right now...they said on the major papers' front pages, they had stories about 4 only 4 congresscritters calling for withdrawal from Iraq...

But, they didn't have the Durbin speech, OR, the fact that the Sunnis have agreed to join into the constitution and politicial system in Iraq...

They all three said the Sunni news is HUGE, and GOOD NEWS, but that most Americans won't even hear about it, or realize how much closer this is for the Iraqis to having their own country to themselves...

Oh, and I heard that McCain is going to be on Meet the Press on Sunday, and Hugh feels like I do, that McCain will NOT be critical of Durbin---Mort and Fred both feel that McCain WILL be critical...

Also, Hugh said that he has the transcript of a radio interview the Durbin did this morning, posted on his website...

McCain cannot possibly win. The conservative base don't like him and they will not vote for him.

Well. I did my part. Have just sent two long letters to the two Republican Senators from PA. I included the fact I have a nephew in the Marines currently probably involved in operation Spear killing the goons and what is this Marine supposed to think about now being classified as a Nazi!

CENSURE

EXPULSION!

EXECUTION!

O.K. I'd be happy if someone would take Durbin out back and beat the snot out of him.

...Democrats want to reach out..." That is exactly what Hillary is playing at as a foil to the daily over the top rants of the Democratic Party at large. I do hope they try to censure him just to get her vote on record.

That is a very good point...we have lost all sense of proportion in this country. When high school graduates cannot name the president and the vice president, then how can we expect people to object to the comparison between our overactive refrigeration of the detainees, and the terror that took place under the NAZI and Soviet regimes? A large group (possibly the majority?) of young people will see no problem with this comparison because they have no knowledge of history. Woe to this country that relies on the ignorant to elect the irascible.

May I suggest that the thing that counts most is an old fashioned, snail-mail hard-copy letter. Emails just get ignored, but sacks of letters get noticed, and unlike phone calls, there is no way to take the phone off the hook.

I agree. I would never say I would never vote for a democrat(I voted for Clinton). But at this point, I can't see myself voting for any Democrat in the party's current state.
