That is a very good point...we have lost all sense of proportion in this country. When high school graduates cannot name the president and the vice president, then how can we expect people to object to the comparison between our overactive refrigeration of the detainees, and the terror that took place under the NAZI and Soviet regimes? A large group (possibly the majority?) of young people will see no problem with this comparison because they have no knowledge of history. Woe to this country that relies on the ignorant to elect the irascible.

Thanks. I agree wholeheartedly. The state of our public high schools is a disgrace. Our country is indeed a perfect example of the ignornant electing the horrible. As an Australian pal e-mailed me just now, "US is going to pay an increasing price for its lack of attention to history..."
