On so many levels. The US Senate can censure Trent Lott for birthday comments, but can't censure Little Dickie Durban for selling out our country for purely disgusting partisan reasons.
The problem is - the rules our military have differ somewhat from just USA laws - because the situations are different. But .. the rule said you cannot discharge your weapon during interrogation. I didn't see any problem with what he did .. but the military couldn't let that go. I'm sure it was a very difficult choice for them to make.
But .. if he had shot off his weapon on the battlefield in order to get the guy to talk - it would have been okay.
There were two from the House of Representatives who went, not Senators. One was David Bonior of Michigan (now retired) and the other was Jim McDermott of Washington state. They made excuses for Saddam by saying maybe he wasn't ok but he was not as big a liar as President Bush.
I don't think Jeb Bush would probably be able to stand McCain long enough...LOL
I bet the Bush's have a lot to say about him at family reunions...although, lately it seems that the Clintons are there all the time, so I don't see how they can gossip...
I thought I heard a soundbite today of Clinton on Jay Leno, saying something about the Bush's adopting Hillary!!! If that is true, BARF!!!!
Following is my open letter to Seantor Blanche Lincoln (D. Ar):
Senator Lincoln, thanks for providing such an apt topic for my e-mail to you, because I write to you, today, to discuss one of the most vile attacks on America and our military that I have ever witnessed. I am referring to the comments of one of your colleagues in the world's most exclusive country club, Senator Dick Durbin (D-Il).
It is time this rank sedition by a member of the U.S. Senate is called for what it is, and it is high time a well-respected senator, from Senator Durbin's own party, to drop their grip on the party line and call for Senator Durbin's censure and removal from the body. Will you be that brave and patriotic senator?
Never in the history of our nation has a sitting United States senator been allowed free rein to smear our nation and our military in the manner that Senator Durbin has sunk to in the past few days. To make matters worse, after being given ample opportunity to retract his remarks by Senator McConnell and others, he staunchly and adamantly stands by his ridiculous and, in my opinion, traitorous charges; all based upon hearsay and lies, but designed to do the maximum damage to our nation's foreign policy and our efforts in the worldwide war on terror.
Senator Durbin should have better sense than to defend the treatment of lowlife, hardcore terrorists that would slit his, your and my throats, and those of our children, if given half a chance. To make matters even worse, Senator Durbin compounds the lie -- initially propagated by his and your lesser lights in your own party -- that these enemy combatants are deserving of rights and privileges granted under the Geneva Conventions. The senator knows better, but he knows most of the American people have been so dumbed-down over the years that he can get by with such blatant demagoguery.
I ask you to stand up in the face of this man's out-and-out treason -- giving aid and comfort to an enemy in a time of war -- and call for harsh censure and his immediate resignation. He does not deserve a seat in the senate; a cell in Leavenworth would be more fitting. If it were up to me, I'd have him tried for treason.
Al Jazeera satellite TV is continually replaying Senator Durbin's remarks to their Arab audience, and the damage to our efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan will continue to mount. Further, it is my opinion that the blood of every U.S. service man or woman killed or wounded, past Senator Durbin's ridiculous grab for headlines and attention, is on the senator's hands.
Your party has shamelessly allowed a monolithic hatred for George W. Bush to cloud your collective judgement on issue after issue, and the vitriol from the likes of Durbin, Kennedy (who in their right mind would even want to be remotely associated with this drowner of young women?), Schumer, Reid, Clinton, and others. Hatred that has not only clouded the party's judgement, but seriously impairs any chance that the Democratic Party will ever again be the political powerhouse it once was.
Do the right thing, Senator Lincoln: step up to the plate and let the Bush-haters know that the American people want to see leadership and ideas from the minority party for a change. Past election history should have taught you and the party that hatred and obstructionism is not a viable party platform. Stop the intellectual dishonesty that has overtaken partisans like Senator Durbin, and be the first in your party to call for his censure and ultimate resignation. You will thereby cement yourself in the minds of the voting public as an honest politician -- something we have too few of.

If his intention were to actually damage our efforts, what would he have said differently? You could be correct.

One thing I'm thinking, I bet the guards apologized for messing with the thermostat. I bet they apologized for the rap music, and the smell of bacon. And I bet that any apologies by our soldiers would not be accepted by Dick Durbin. But he will expect us to accept his late apology, won't he?

I just heard on Chris Wallace of Fox News Sunday, on Hugh Hewitt's show..
Chris was asked about Durbin's speech and IMHO, Chris came off kinda scary...he acted like it was NO BIG DEAL---he said that he didn't think it would make it more dangerous for the troops and that potential suicide bombers would decide to do it based on Durbin's speech...
Pretty much discounting it---and even Hugh Hewitt seemed very surprised at Chris' lack of concern...
I was hoping that this weekends show would be all out slams on Durbin, like they are ususally all out slams on Bush or a Republican...but NO, it sounds like the leftist MSM has got there marching orders from the dems.

I've reached many senators by phone this week. I can't find my list where I checked their names off. Looks like I'll have to start from scratch. Some of them ain't gonna like it.
You'll be happy to know that I have taken your counsel to heart, and my e-mail to the POS from Illinois was markedly less flowery and eloquent than the note I sent Senator Lincoln.
