"In short, a self-righteousness that isn't very flattering," McKenna told The Canadian Press annual dinner, a gathering of journalists and power-brokers.

Canada is blessed by bountiful natural resources (natural gas, timber, rangeland, etc.) and a neighbor who underwrites their security and buys with cash whatever they produce. This frees them to be lazy, inefficient, and selfish. Because they are stupid and ignorant they think that these blessings are of their own making. They are not. Canada as a whole is a disgrace. Yes, there are many good people there. Yes, they were an admirable country as recently as fifty years ago. But we do neither them nor ourselves any favors by denying the obvious. Taken as a whole, Canada is currently a disgrace to humankind.

That was a long time ago ... things have changed significantly.

I believe the East Coast may be more Conservative (Red in the US) than many think. I'm from the East Coast.

On the contrary. I think very highly of Canadian who represent the rugged freedom and independence I associate with the great North. It's the traitorous French weenies who seem to whine the loudest and have politically silenced the good and decent Canadian people that we despise.

The way I see it, Canada's better half was out working and making the country run while behind their backs, french weasels overran their government. By the time the good Canadians realized what happened to their government, the pool of slime around Montreal was so deep it would take years to repair. I believe they are aware of the problem, it's just going to take a while to "skin" all the weasels.

>>There are up to three million expatriate Canadians living in the U.S. and McKenna said he's looking to marshal them so they can help Ottawa on issues of importance to Canada.

In my experience, those ex-pats aren't too interested in helping the Canadian government. Many of them are here largely because of their great dislike for the Canadian government.

Yes, he just might have his hands full on that one. : )

One typically relocates to another country for a reason.

Wait until you have seen Kiwis and Aussies. Since both NZ and Australia don't have a tipping custom and we don't normally tip here, we are even lousier than Canadians when it comes to tipping.

I was just going to say that I couldn't possibly care less about what Canada thinks of American policy, but I like your note better.

I like Canucks, but they would do well to recognize that they sleep safe in their beds at night because the US has always done their heavy lifting.

I agree in that we shouldn't care about American policy unless it directly affects us. However, rogue yam's comments tell me he doesn't know much about Canada and his only intention with that post was to flame.

Better a flamer than a bomber, eh?

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/1416458/posts?page=15

The 17-year-old Bucks County boy charged with having bomb-making equipment in his bedroom and threatening to blow up his school is a Canadian who hates Americans, prosecutors say.

Gibbons said police found Biehn's parents to be uncooperative during the search. Gibbons said she could not provide the first name of the boy's mother, but the woman harassed investigators as they searched the house.

"The mother was verbally interfering with the police officers. She said her son should not cooperate. The father was also not cooperative," the district attorney said.

During the arraignment, Travis Biehn wore a T-shirt that read, "Proud to be a Canadian."

Quebecers generally dislike (or hate) Americans far more than other Canadians though...

Parts of it (particularly southern New Brunswick and rural mainland Nova Scotia) are quite conservative, not unlike some conservative pockets in northern New England.

Good find on McKenna's speech! :-)

I'm guessing that in a few days (or soonner) the FULL speech will be posted here on the Canadian Embassy's (Washington) website:

The Ambassador's Speeches

Hopefully some FReeper will be able to post it to this forum....

FReegards from Toronto!
