What did W. Mark Felt know, and when did he know it?- (Felt might be an imposter, taking the fall)
JEWISH WORLD REVIEW.COM ^ | JUNE 2, 2005 | KEITH OLBERMANN

Posted on 06/02/2005 8:48:23 PM PDT by CHARLITE

Deep Throat is Mark Felt, the former deputy associate director of the FBI — except for the parts of Deep Throat that clearly aren't Mark Felt, like all the stuff Throat supposedly confirmed after Felt left the FBI in June, 1973.

Well, that's going to be something of a problem, isn't it?

Dean analyzed the meetings Woodward describes in All The Presidents' Men and methodically analyzes what others have glossed over. For Woodward's version to be literally correct, his source had to be able to have access to specific information (and disinformation — Dean estimated last night that half of what Throat told Woodward was materially wrong) at specific times. He also had to be physically in Washington to conduct the meetings Woodward wrote about in the book, which were presumably relied upon in the vital day-to-day coverage he and Bernstein wrote for the Post in 1972, 1973, and 1974.

For us, he offered the startling fact that possibly the most vital information Throat gave Woodward — that there were "erasures" on at least one of the surreptitious tapes of Richard Nixon's Oval Office conversations (the infamous "18 minute gap") — was dispensed in November, 1973 — nearly five months after Felt had left his position in the FBI.

So where did Felt-Throat get that information? Gossip? Where from?

"How is he going to explain Felt having some of the information he had," Dean continued, "when it just isn't in the realm of possibility that he had access to it, even as third or fourth hand hearsay?"

Dean's e-book for Salon three years ago was called Unmasking Deep Throat, and unlike all the other attempts to identify Throat, it is meticulous and scholarly.

To paraphrase [Senator] Baker, "What did Deep Throat know and when did he know it?"

Something is beginning to look very contrived about Mark Felt's sudden "coming out." It makes me very suspicious. There is a puzzle here, and we don't nearly have all of the pieces.

One piece I'm sure of...anything this pinhead writes is questionable regardless of it's content.

Keith is totally useless and defenseless in the brain department.

You're believing Keith Olbermann? Olbermann is just upset that their "liberal icon" is a guy who also went after left-wing radical groups.

I believe the "composite" theory more then this Felt guy being the Lone Deep Throat. But I actually think W & B just made most of it up. Esp. the cloak & dagger signal system.

You haven't been watching his show this week, have you?

He and John Dean (yes, John Dean!) are tearing Felt and Woodward and Bernstein apart.

Go figure.

They must have made some of it up...or they were told made up information...because a lot of what they reported wasn't true.

W&B got lucky. They threw enough bull to get some to stick. How much Throat was bull...I guess we'll have to buy the book. W&B need more money out of this 30 year cash cow.

This story is just beginning to break. Felt can't be Deep Throat or, at least, the only Deep Throat. Woodstein are going to be sorry they tried this route to extricate themselves from the inevitable Deep Throat revelation that would become necessary sometime soon.

A Woodward/Bernstein/Bradlee conspiracy theory:

I believe that there may be a lot of people who believe they are DT. In fact, I read a little petulance into Deans responses here. I still believe that he may think its him.

DT is just a bunch of tiny pieces that the WP used to CYA, but when Woodward wrote "All the President's Men" he had someone in mind to fill the position. Woodward was just waiting for that person to die so he could completely shore up his own legacy. No reporter worth his salt would ever reveal a source dead or alive because that would damage his career...even if the source told him he could...that whole thing just sounds hokey.

So the bottom line is—I'm don't believe Felt is lying. I do believe that W&B are lying and always have been.

Something is beginning to look very contrived about Mark Felt's sudden "coming out."

Do you know what else the Washington Post owns? Newsweek. You know, the phony Koran flushers. Isn't this story doing a great job of burying the story of Newsweek's phony story?

I wonder if Woodward and Bernstein are going to give Felt any money.

But he's NOT "taking the fall". Nothing is going to happen to him.

He should be indicted.

I'm Deep Throat
No, I'm Deep Throat
No, I'm the real Deep Throat

Will the real Deep Throat please stand up...

Perhaps Dean knows who it really is.

I also think Felt is a 'fall guy'. ::just my opinion::

What is interesting, on this thread that bringbackmyhuac posted:

Nixon Horrified Jew Could Head FBI

Is this transcript true?

On the tape of a February 1972 conversation with evangelist Billy Graham – made public in February 2002 – Nixon complained that a number of major news publications were "dominated” by Jews, and Graham responded: "The stranglehold has got to be broken, or the country’s going to go down the drain.”

Nixon said: "You believe that?”

Graham: "Yes sir.”

Nixon: "So do I. I can’t ever say that, but I believe it.”

Graham: "No, but if you get elected a second time, then we might be able to do something.”

Later on the tape, after Graham left, Nixon told Haldeman: "The Jews are irreligious, atheistic, immoral bunch of bastards.”

The tape citing Felt as a leak mentions FBI Director L. Patrick Gray, whom Nixon had appointed after J. Edgar Hoover died – passing over Felt, who was expected to get the top job.

Here are excerpts from the tape:

Nixon: "Well, if they’ve got a leak down at the FBI, why the hell can’t Gray tell us what the hell is left . . . ?”

Haldeman: "We know what’s left, and we know who leaked it.”

Nixon: "Somebody in the FBI?”

Haldeman: "Yes, sir. Mark Felt. You can’t say anything about this because it will screw up our source and there’s a real concern. [Attorney General John] Mitchell is the only one who knows about this and he feels strongly that we better not do anything because . . .”

Nixon: "Do anything? Never.”

Haldeman: "If we move on him, he’ll go out and unload everything. He knows everything that’s to be known in the FBI. He has access to absolutely everything . . .”

Nixon: "You know what I’d do with him, the bastard? Well that’s all I want to hear about it.”

Haldeman: "I think he wants to be in the top spot.”

Nixon: "That’s a hell of a way for him to get to the top ... Is he Catholic?”

Haldeman: "Jewish.”

Nixon: "Christ, put a Jew in there?”

Haldeman: "Well, that could explain it, too.”

I was quite disheartened that most of the freepers on that thread ran with the semetic comments vs. Felt being a leak.

If Felt is a leak, this needs more spotlight.

What would Woodstein be trying to protect with a phony deepthroat outing? What person would be important enough to them to let Felt take credit at this point?

He was indicted, but not for this. Reagan pardoned him in 1981.

Clinton would have 'moved" on him. Arkanside wasn't in wide use in Nixon's day apparently.
