For the freedom you enjoyed yesterday...
Thank the Veterans who served in The United States Armed Forces.

Canteen Backyard Cookout!!

Okay, who's cooking??

Tomkow? Old Sarge? Tonkin? HiJinx? Auntie Fawnn? Ma??????

Long weekends sometimes are family backyard cookouts.
While this weekend is Memorial Weekend, which we in the Canteen take seriously, a little kickoff fun is planned.
We thank our Troops for their service to our nation.

We have some beer!

Some eats!

Some fishing....

Some lounging around...

You a Redneck??
You might be a Redneck if your pickup looks like this!
Some more beer!

Somemore lounging around...

Tomkow has to show off at every Canteen party!
Soooo, what's your idea of a Backyard Cook Out?

Well, we did have a birthday party for an 85-year old lady and had some of that mmmmmmmmm cake with the ooey-gooey icing....sorry, I ate it all! LOL! So the pickle.....maybe not now!

(((hugs))) I will, lauren! Since he visited the Canteen while I visited him, he realizes how much everyone here loves him and all the troops! He was amazed at such outpouring of support in one place!

Peach is pretty common here-abouts.

Gilbert, down the road, holds a peach festival
every year and the ice cream is just tremendous.

Not like Irmo's Okra Strut, where
the ice cream is kinda slippery!

LOL!

Now It's recipe time; A Barbecue for Two.

Barbecued Lamb Ribblets

Have butcher cut a 1 1/2 - 2lp lamb breast in half, cutting across bones. Place indirectly on BBQ about 3" from medium coals or heat up your gas grill to 325 degrees (slow mod.). Cut lamb breast into serving pieces of one, two, or three bones per piece. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Bake 1 1/2 hour, uncovered. Pour off excess fat. Cover with Barbecue Sauce (below); bake covered 30 to 45 minutes. Garnish with lemon slices or wedges. This delivers approx 2 servings.

Barbecue Sauce

1/2 cup catsup
1/4 cup vinegar
1/4 cup water
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 medium onion, finely minced

Mix ingredients. Pour over ribblets. Makes 1 cup.

Roasted Sweet Potatoes

Rub 2 scrubbed sweet potatoes or yams with oil or butter and prick with fork. Wrap in heavy foil. Place on grill over hot coals. Bake, turning occasionally, about 1 hour, until tender. Unwrap; split lengthwise. Season with butter salts and pepper 4 servings
