McCain is dead meat in the GOP.

I hope you're right about that. I'm sick of him.

I'd still like to strangle Lott for coining the term Nuclear option!

Yes ........ very, very unfortunate.

But you must know, if Lott didn't call it that, the old lying/socialist/Dem. media would have done it for him!

;-)

Just because you don't use an option, even if you don't get what you want or what should be, doesn't mean it isn't still a viable option. It may simply mean that the Dems didn't invoke it simply because there weren't enough members willing to invoke the filibuster even if they were willing to vote against him.

Paez was confirmed with less than 60.

16 Senators can invoke the non-debatable mechanism of cloture.

I do agree though, that presence of a tool (e.g. cloture) does not mean that tool MUST be used.

Is Lott almost BEGGING for a deal? Or, is it just me?

That is not the sense I was getting. Right now he's saying there is no deal he could ever agree to that didn't get Owen a vote.

McCain and all the rino horses he rode in on, beginning w/Lindsey Graham, a real disappointment imo.

Clinton's nominees were denied in committee (according to Senate Rules!)

There you have it. Thanks.

I just called Richard Burr's office, who is my senator; I pointed out to the guy on the phone that the "Compromise Committee" is bargaining away HIS vote on the floor of the Senate, which is what I voted for him for!

And I am going to hold any Republican who lets them bargain away THEIR vote just as reponsible as the ones doing the dealing.

But it wasn't a filibuster of an initial appointment to the federal bench. It was a filibuster of an elevation within the federal court.

Does Hillary realize that she will have a problem getting a man to run with her as VP (unless she picks Bubba). I know it was discussed at one time. If she was smart, she would have run with Kerry. I think they just might have won with that ticket.

I turned to Fox a few minutes ago, and David Asman said, "Well the compromise may not be taken now, but stay tuned to Fox, it could happen anytime today!"

Yep, just keeping viewers!!!

It would guaranty that judicial nominees would not be held up in committee. How do you all think Spectral will take to that?

Even Reid was arguing this morning that no nominee should be bottled up in committee. Why, that's what all those DEMs meant back in the mid-1990's.

I am wondering if this could be the beginning of "The Fourth Turning".

If any of you have read the book, please comment on what you think the long-term implications might be of this apparent impasse.
