Yeah. It's almost impossible for me to follow what Specter is saying, because he drones on (and on... and on). From what I can gather, however, he's trying hard to justify his own position as a moderate, by extolling the virtues of moderation...standing for nothing, and offending as few people as possible.
These guys almost make me as sick as the RATS.

Thanks Howlin...Coming from you, it means a lot.
Using Jefferson is usually a bad choice because you are more than likely to encounter a contrary statement on the same issue.

THe argument about "what happens when the Reps are in the minority" is so bogus because everyone knows that Reps are either too principled or too spineless to filibuster a judicial appt.

No doubt to be replaced by the "Howard Dean Comedy Hour" - a reality show.

I notice a pattern, where cloture and filibuster are "equated," "tied together at the hip," or otherwise made to seem that the existence of one necessarily implies the existence of the other. That without cloture, there can be no filibuster. Hence the persistent mention of 60 votes, which comes from Rule XXII.
I think the lesson from the GOP will be to show how "filibuster" and "unanimous consent" are related. No Rule XXII. Debate, deliberate, then vote. No motion for cloture.

Spectre standing up for owens? That isn't possible. Apparently to some Spectre is a lost cause. Why would he defend this woman.
To: Soul Seeker
Maybe so, but to me it's unseemly for the Judiciary Chairman to be undecided at this late date, and then yell it out loud! What message does this send to the Dems? That there's still room for compromise? I thought Frist made it clear that time has run out on that.

This has been pretty much choreographed by both sides up to now, and probably for a long time in the future. Spectre has apparently been dubbed as the 'Pubbie who will present the history of this problem for anyone who cares to know. I don't think he's presented much of note to anyone. Frist has his vote on this issue, though - Spectre doesn't think judges ought to be able to be blocked by minority vote.
