Welcome, all you Freepers, to the continuing C-span soap operas about judicial nominations. "The Guiding SEARCHLIGHT, " "As the SENATE Turns, "One NOMINATION to Live" "GERIATRIC Hospital" (for all you Byrd and Lautenberg fans out there). Follow along with us, as the Dems raise the level of histrionics, bloviation, pontification, and all around bad acting to new highs, er, lows...
Wrong, AP - compromise time is OVER.
Specter: "Drone, drone, drone." Bring the Dems back. They're much more fun to listen to.
Exactly.
yup , ... OK Arlen ,3rd time around is enough , wrap it up PLEASE!!
C'mon Pukin, tell us how you REALLY feel! lol
I wish him nothing but good things in his private life, but the be-ach is selling us down the river.
Look, we all need to take a chill pill. As much as we'd like this thing to be resolved five minutes from now, it's not going to be resolved five minutes from now. There is not going to be a mushroom cloud over the Capitol five minutes from now. This may very well not be decided before the middle of next week, and IMHO there ain't a whole lot we can do about it except blow off steam in settings like this.
Disagree. I'm not listening to a pessimist or optimist opinion of his statements. I am stating what I see. What I see is Spectre prefering not to do this vote, but making the historical case as to how we got here.
Does Arlen want to be CJSC?
When, where did you hear that the Senate is taking Friday off?
Dang, they just got back, and will be leaving in a little over a week---the Reps need to stay and fight this out!
Now pointing out that the GOP is in the driver's seat.
Right. It's so hard to follow him because his speaking style is so disjointed. So far he's sound like the Scottish-law guy.
Thank you for your recommendation.
EXACTLY. i thought he even signed a paper for Frist to support REP nominees in the Judiciary Committee before he got the Chairmanship.
IMO, many conservations WANT to enact a compromise and do not want to outlaw abortion completely. The DEMS do not want to compromise. Surprise, surprise. Just look at all of the flak over the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban.
I believe that MANY people now want this to be a states issue. I also believe that many states would institute laws that had exceptions which would protect situations like the 12 yr old girl.
The Partial-Birth Abortion Ban was a good start to a compromise. Determine a time when life begins and legislate from that point on. Of course, you have those on both extremes who would argue when life begins.
With what we know today about the birthing cycle, we should be able to come to a universal agreement as to when the fertilized egg becomes a functional human. If this can be made, laws can be developed around that agreement. Killing a baby after the second trimester is MURDER, plain and simple.
This is one of the hardest subjects to talk about because it involves life and if you make the mistake and create that life when you didn't want to, you are going to have to make a tough choice. Unfortunately, all options have bad consequences. Abortion can cause mental and physical damage. Adoption can cause mental damage. Having the baby and being a parent is the toughest job around.
It is not easy and that is the point. If you are not ready to have the baby, you shouldn't be doing the act that would bring about a baby. If you are raped or abused, exceptions can be allowed for termination early on.
This is a tough issue that requires tough decisions and should be open to debate. Roe v Wade silences that debate.
He is the leader of the Judiciary Committee and has stated that he hasn't made up his own mind yet. What kind of message does that send to fence sitters?
Thanks for the data.
You just named the elephants in the room. Good job. I hadn't thought of it that way. Email it to Rush.
You might want to reconsider making statements like this. Obscenity is not allowed on the Free Republic. ;)
