Congresswoman says more workers should be hired to patrol borders
- U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Houston, called for Gov. Rick Perry to ask the Minutemen not to expand militia patrols of the U.S.-Mexico border from Arizona to Texas.
"I urge the governor to disinvite the Minuteman Project. Ask them not to come here," Jackson Lee said Sunday.
The group has posted volunteers in Arizona to alert authorities to illegal immigrants crossing the border.
Organizers have expressed an interest in recruiting in Texas and beginning patrols along the Rio Grande in October.
Jackson Lee said she sees it as the "dereliction of duty" by the federal government not to have improved staffing in customs and the border patrol.
She said she will advocate that money be increased to hire more workers to patrol the borders.

So why hasn't Sheila said anything about it before now?
Viva Minutemen!

Jackson Lee said she sees it as the "dereliction of duty" by the federal government not to have improved staffing in customs and the border patrol. I agree with Sheila Jackson Lee on anything? I feel as lost and confused as Neil Armstrong did when he landed on Mars.

She said she will advocate that money be increased to hire more workers to patrol the borders. Yeah, why have volunteers do it for free when you can stick the taxpayers with a larger bill?

The Minuteman Project exists because government has not done its job. The Governor should either stay out of this debate or offer his assistance and help to the Minutemen. If he asks them to stay away, the efforts for citizen patrols should be redoubled to compensate for any interference by the State.

Typical leftist. First thought is that power and responsibility must be taken out of the hand of the individual and given to the state.
It's so nice to be taken care of by the government.

She knows damned well that the Minutemen will flat-out bust her constituency as they come straggling across the border, whereas she can play politics with the Border Patrol to keep it Business As Usual. Now that she's put herself on the spot, let's see her put some of my tax money where her gaping yap is, and triple the Border agents along the Rio Grande. Sounds like a wise expenditure of Homeland Security dollars, to me.
