Free Republic Military?
5/16/05 | Guard Dog

I just read a post on conservative blog that stated few freepers were veterans (implication was that we were chicken hawks). Having conversed with many of you and met a few, I do not believe that is the case. But it did get me wondering, who among us is active or prior service veterans? Awright you freeper vets SOUND OFF!

I am perpeually proud of those who have served, and continue to serve.
I also look at the younger generation signing up with some envy.

If my knees weren't trashed, I'd go back in a heartbeat.

I was in EOD in CONUS, Korea, and Vietnam. I guess EOD sort of counts being in the military although I have heard some of the combat arms folks refer to us as "That Bunch of F#$%^& Civilians". We do have uniforms and we don't smell bad.

I guess we don't have to wait for Veteran's Day or Memorial Day for this, do we?

Yeah.
We went from having a good Captain with actual leadership ability to having a PC wank that literally got us killed ever AT at Drum.
He got us declared dead for 24 hours one day due to his whizzing match with the OC's.
Being artillery, we were happiest when actually doing something.
Worst punishment you can give an artilleryman is have him sit idle for a day.

After that, we were in checkfire for three days.

All because he refused to admit he was wrong on something and the OC's were right.
