Capt. Edward Hollis, the commander of Company A, 2nd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, uses the scope on an M4 carbine to scan a distant ridgeline in Zambar, Afghanistan.

"7.62 millimeter, full... metal... jacket."

Colombian Army Commander Reinaldo Castellanos, left, speaks with U.S. Southern Command Army Gen. Bantz J. Craddock during a visit to the Sumapaz region near Bogotá, Colombia, on Wednesday. Craddock pledged a complete review of the rules governing the conduct of American troops in Colombia, where U.S. soldiers were recently implicated in plots to traffic cocaine and smuggle stolen ammunition to death squads.

Downtown Bogotá? Sure, you take the number "7" bus which stops right over there every 45 minutes.

Soldiers with the Fort Bragg, N.C.-based 82nd Airborne Division wait to board C-17 Globemaster aircraft during the Joint Forcible Entry exercise at Pope Air Force Base, N.C., on Tuesday. The exercise is designed to enhance service cohesiveness between the Army and Air Force.

Hey MoJo, I know the answers to at least one of the trivia questions from yesterday!

An F-16 fighter jet, fully armed with air-to-air missiles, maneuvers above the northwest section of Washington, D.C., on Wednesday. At least two F-16s were scrambled to intercept a small airplane that flew into the restricted airspace that circles the nation's capital. The White House and the Capitol building were evacuated until the situation was resolved.

During a recent terrorist scare in D.C. Senator Kennedy was given a military fighter plane escort  as he made his way to a luncheon where he had the liver of a federal court nominee, a few fava beans, and a nice Chianti.

A soldier from the Fort Bragg, N.C.-based 82nd Airborne Division waits for the command to jump onto drop zone Sicily from a C-17 Globemaster III aircraft during the Joint Forcible Entry exercise on Tuesday at Pope Air Force Base, N.C.

The terrorist warning system went to condition red which compelled the Troops to go on high alert.

Tech. Sgt. Steven Roudebush holds his daughter, Annie, 4, after arriving at Dyess Air Force Base, Texas, on Wednesday from a deployment to Southeast Asia.

Hey Daddy, don't you know that girls do not make passes at Troops who wear glasses?

California National Guardsmen Sgt. Justin Gunn, top, and Spc. Kyle Decker, both UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter technicians with C Company, 1st Battalion, 140th Aviation, Task Force Liberty, work the night shift of a 24-hour helicopter maintenance operation. The helicopters are flown frequently, necessitating the use of generator lights to work outdoors when the hangar is full.

On the weekends the hangar has been known to be used as a popular Discothèque.

Sailors and marines climb down a cargo net and into the Persian Gulf during a swim call aboard the aircraft carrier Carl Vinson (CVN 70) on Tuesday. The Vinson Carrier Strike Group is currently deployed to the Persian Gulf and will end its deployment with a homeport shift to Norfolk, Va. It will also undergo a three-year refuel and complex overhaul.

Gosh, I hope that this climb down to TomKow's  camp thread is worth it.

It isn't a superstition, per se, but I do have what I believe to be a healthy skepticism of any writer who uses the phrase "God condoned this cruelty to animals" to describe a biblical passage.

Carrying Your Love With Me
by George Strait
(Click the picture to listen)

Baby all I got is this beat up leather bag.
And everything I own don't fill up half.
But don't you worry 'bout the way I pack.
All I care about is getting back real soon.
A goodbye kiss is all I need from you.

I'm carrying your love with me.
West Virginia down to Tennessee.
I'll be movin' with the good Lord's speed.
Carrying your love with me.
It's my strength for holdin' on,
Every minute that I have to be gone.
I'll have everything I ever need.
Carrying your love with me.

On a lonely highway, stuck out in the rain.
Darlin' all I have to do is speak your name.
The clouds roll back and the waters part.
The sun starts shining in my heart for you.
You're right there in everything I do, 'cause...

Greetings, FReepers, Troops,
and All the Ships at Sea!

Reporting in Drive-by Mode from the Dust Bowl in sunny Fort Irwin, it’s Day 158 of Sarge's Most Excellent Adventure!

And the Kids of The Company are about to head out into The Sandbox, here at NTC. The weather's not near as hot as it could be, but still being only 20 miles south of Death Valley, it ain't a resort...

Sarge and The Kids are doing fairly well, considering the pressure we're being put under. Lots of last-minute, eleventh-hour, five-minutes-to-midnight BS that happens, and y'all know what I'm talking about!

Nasty evil mean-spirited rumors abound out here, that we might have Web access while we're out there. It's a far cry from the analog Army Sarge grew up in, with stuby pencils, paper maps, stone knives and bearskins.

Sarge might be back in the area, but if not, then Y’all Have Fun!

SARGE

DISCLAIMER: If you wish to be on/off Sarge's Daily Report, FReepmail with details!
