There is an internet vandal who defaces Free Republic with very gross pictures (homosexual sex and stuff from rotton.com) as well as posting "ALL YOU F***** N*****S & JEWS SHOULD BE LYNCHED".
He pings a variety of people to his post, ensuring that the trash is still in their My Posts lists.
To me, this isn't the milder form of harassment that Eschoir engaged in so many years ago. The very worst he would do is ask if you ever committed sodomy, and he once used the screen name "Paula Jones Tw*t". This is mild.
What this sick piece of work is doing is much more egregious. I believe it crosses the line into criminal defacement and restraint of trade. Are there any Free Republic lawyers (especially prosecutors) who can address this issue, and are there any private detectives with internet savvy that will help track the identity of this person down?
Did you actually see the troll's posts, before calling Laz a whiner?
He has certainly violated the "Community Standards" of FR.
He should be prosecuted.
Are you a lawyer? If not, your opinion is noted and placed into the 'laymen' category.
I still think it's one of the sheet-wearers from StormFront who masquerades himself on FR.
I think Hate crime is more like it.
Maybe that's what the mods were doing that it took so long to get rid of him? How long does it take to track an IP?
It would be easy enough to supply all the evidence on hand to FBI, but given this guy's level of persistence, I suspect most of the IP data is spoofed. Who knows, maybe Jim Rob already has cooperated with FBI to catch/trace this stuff as it comes in. I'm out of that loop to be sure, but Jim's a smart guy, so it's possible.
I finally saw some of the filth this jerk posted...it was totally revolting. How long has it been at this? I heard about it last week in cyborg's post.
This sucker needs to go DOWN!
BUMP
I have often wondered why a zotted post will still show up on a ping-list. It seems like a weakness in the system.
If at all possible, I would prefer to see this sort of thing dealt with in-house. For instance, letting somebody post a graphic on the first day of registration just invites abuse. I suspect that this person is a petulant little twerp, and it will not take too much to make him go away.
It seems that FR should be the last institution to invite legal intrusion into the content of posts. You would be amazed how many busybodies there are out there who find your run-of-the-mill FR post offensive, and would love to sue to stop it.
But I am PO'ed at this guy to. I would love to see the hurt put on him, one way or another.
Oh, please. Whiner. You've got to be freakin' kidding me.
From his knowledge of many of the regular FR posters---and his knowledge of their race, it would be reasonable to admit the possibility that it is someone who has been banned from FR.
Yes but minors also come here, charge him with providing sexualy explicit pics that could be viewed by minors. there is no age restriction here.
Dear Lazamataz,
Well, if there is a basis for criminal prosecution, and a prosecutor can be persuaded to take the case, I'm all for it! Glad I hadn't eaten any breakfast before looking. Don't think I will now that I did look.
I wonder, though, whether any prosecutor would take the case.
When I built my house four years ago, my builder engaged in criminal fraud that ultimately cost me about $20K. When my lawyer talked to the State's Attorney, he wasn't interested in prosecuting. It wasn't that the law wasn't broken, it was that the State's Attorney felt that there were lots worse builders out there doing lots worse things who needed his attention. So, we got left out in the cold.
In this arena, there are folks who are doing lots worse Internet crimes - phishing, illegal spamming, etc. Although I may have lost my appetite for much of the day, the disruptor's posts did not cause the FR servers to crash, nor did he steal anyone's identity and go off and steal thousands of dollars as a result.
In this case, as jude24 points out, the disruptor may very well raise First Amendment issues. Because the actions of this disruptor do little more than disgust some modest number of folks, and he may make First Amendment claims, I can see prosecutors deciding to avoid this case.

Anonymous and high-anonymous proxies can be denied.
i.e., I know enough to be dangerous ;-).
I would argue that this was an authorized use, however. Disgusting, vile, and even an abuse of his privileges, to be sure. But I'm skeptical of the success of criminal prosecution for this.
Good God, I just can't for the life of me imagine that a HUMAN would find anything remotely appealing in the pics... Hence, the IT part of my post... I have a feeling there are a bunch of chromosomes walking around without a home... JMO
I agree that legal action should be taken if possible. In the meantime though, I don't think that anyone should respond to it. Just hit abuse and let the mods take care of it. It desperately wants attention and it gets what it wants when it receives outraged responses to the filth that it posts.
Get his address and I'll go discuss it with him.
Have you SEEN the posts?
