A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Welcome to TGIF at the Finest!   We hope you've been having as much fun as we have with our essays and/or spotlight on various FReepers. From the beginning, we've been kicking back on Saturdays and Sundays and simply reviewing the features of the week; our weekend threads now start on Friday and continue through Sunday. If you missed seeing any of this week's threads and want to say hello there now, just click on the link for that particular day. If you'd like to drop in and out of this thread today through Sunday, please feel free to do that also. One of us will try to be around to see the welcome mat is still out, put the coffee pot on, and maybe even bring fresh flowers for the table. : )

Don't Be Afraid

Read:
Isaiah 12

God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid. -Isaiah 12:2

Bible In One Year: Psalm 76-78

cover I have an ancient leaf blower that I use to clean up our patio. It sputters, rattles, smokes, emits irritating fumes, and is considered by my wife (and probably by my neighbors) to be excessively noisy.

But our old dog is utterly indifferent to the racket. When I start up the blower, she doesn't even raise her head, and only reluctantly moves when I blow leaves or dirt in her direction. That's because she trusts me.

A young man who occasionally mows our yard uses a similar blower, but his is not tolerated by our dog. Years ago, when she was a puppy, he teased her with the machine and she has never forgotten. Now, when the man enters the backyard, we have to put her in the house, because she growls, barks, and snarls at him. Same set of circumstances, but the hands that use the blower make all the difference.

So it is with us. Frightening circumstances are less troublesome if we trust the hands that control them. If our world and our lives were governed by a thoughtless and indifferent force, we would have good reason to fear. But the hands that control the universe-God's hands-are wise and compassionate. We can trust them in spite of our circumstances and not be afraid. -David Roper

When fear and worry test your faith
And anxious thoughts assail,
Remember, God is in control,
And He will never fail. -Sper

God is in control, so we have nothing to fear.

A very Good morning to all.. pretty layout with the inclusion of the calendar. and goodie a birthday party tomorrow(that is for sure going to be a fun & busy day). and there is Nan's house with the flag & pledge! How special.. love it.

Thanks for doing our weekend thread. I hope to pop in & out during the weekend although it is going to be busy .

The sun is out already & we are to have temps in high 50s (we'll take it!)....But now I have to get the garbage out. In most homes it is pick up the bag(s) and carry them out.. It is a LOT more complicated here..(and you really do NOT want to know)

Hi all.. quick note here & at Amy's place. Please pray for my aunt who I had lunch with yesterday (one of the conservatives) from NY visiting us... she had a massive stroke last night and is in ICU in critical condition. Prognosis poor. Her mom & 3 siblings sisters all died of hypertension/stroke.

Please remember my Aunt Dotty from Dunkirk? My mom & dad each had 6 siblings.. of all of them Aunt Dotty was my second mom.. yesterday at extended lunch & we talked about life, death, and said we would all be together again in 3 weeks for memorial day to do the annual grave cleaning /decorating at the three cemeteries.. I recall my last sentence was unless Jesus calls one of us in the meantime.. we all shook our heads in agreement as all have major med problems. It is always an understanding when good byes occur, many of you understand this..

thanks FRiends...

Typical 'Morning Waking Up'...

assess heat/cold factor..stretch a bit..cough lightly...all bringing that sweet sound, "meow," followed by "meow'.."MEOW"..and a gentle nudge of a soft forehead belonging to a certain Binky Boy kitty against my dangling-over-the-edge-of-the-bed hand.

The purpose, of course is three-fold - love the Mommikins; get those purr-evoking pats and scratches; and remind her
"IT'S TIME TO FEED THE KITTY!!!" - LOL

What a wonderful surprise it is, Mama_Bear, with your always beautiful presentation!
It's one of those Hit The Jackpot with Attention Times, my birthday Saturday and Mother's Day Sunday - grown granddaughter came Tuesday, my daughter and two grandchildren coming down tomorrow, and both sons in Florida will be sending stuff/calling.

The earlier in the week forecast of a rainy weekend evaporated, morphing into lots of sunshine and in the mid-80's! I am truly blessed.

Already heard from my Sistah Nan up in West Virginia.
Now I hate to divulge this kinda 'mixed bag,' you understand, but it is so typical of our 'loving relationship,' as deadhead and Diver Dave and others can attest.

Sometimes we lapse into memories from our chldhood days way back when -- often with how Mama always loved "YOU" Best illustrations...
Late one night I pointed out while I got pajamas Mama made out of pretty flowered feed sacks, 'she,' the better loved one, got MONOGRAMMED ONES!

Yep - had "Martha White" stamped all over the lovely white material...I actually thought that was Nan's real NAME until I was 7...

So what did I get in the mail Wednesday from her? Several sweet goodies, a card, and then the piece de resistance -- a gen-u-wine feed sack she bought in an antique store!!
(had to rub it in, didncha, Sistah I love?! LOLOL)

Having fed the kitty a tidbit of Fancy Feast (and of course he hit Daddy up for his dawn meal!), I am being reminded to top off the dry food "picnic bowl."

OH, NO!!
Daddy is making his lunch already, and dropped a heavy bread and butter pickle jar on said kitty's head!!
Need to see if there is a kitty concussion...

Be back soon ---

Yikes.
My kitty would have nipped ankles to elicit the peanut butter jar drop.

Well, there you are, birthday girl!

Yep, sounds like you are in for a terrific weekend.

I was happy to put out the call that tomorrow is your special day.

I am truly blessed

As are we to have you in our Finest family. :-)

This weekend is extra special for us also. Not only Mother's Day on Sunday, but today is Mama and Papa Bear's 37th wedding anniversary. Yep, this is where the Bear Family Album started. :-)

Hope the Binky Boy is okay. What a way to wake up, with a pickle jar dropped on one's head!

Oh, Dolly, I am just getting to your note about your Aunt Dotty, and pray The Holy Spirit will hold all of you close to Him.

No, we never know when a last day will separate us from those we love, last seeing my mother when I was 27, when she and Daddy put the boys (6 & 7) and me on a plane to go to South Dakota to join my husband...had a daughter up there she never saw, since we went from there to Fairbanks, Alaska for 3 1/2 years.

She died on Kevin's 10th birthday after a year and a half of being blind, deaf, unable to speak and paralyzed except for slight movement of her left hand...she'd been in the hospital for analysis, and they had found on a Friday a blockage in her carotid artery, and scheduled remedial surgery for Monday morning. Saturday night it traveled to behind the right eye and ruptured, causing severe damage.

My parents are long gone; sister, Carolyn, died 3 year ago, and in the past 3 weeks I've been struggling with the fact my one remaining very dear sibling, Anne, is essentially lost to me.
Her health at 80 has long been complicated and poor, but a recent series of TIA's (mini-strokes) has left her with "badly altered memory."

Now out of the hospital, with no more blockages/clots/etc. there, she is at her daughter's home in Sumter to "rest" - and will never be able to return to her beautiful house on the lake on Taw Caw Creek (Lake Marion), 6 miles from Summerton), even with 24/7 care there.
My other niece said she went to see her and Anne asked how her baby was -- the baby now over 40 and has a sibling, too - another day thought Maureen is pregnant now!
Asked how "David and Buddy are" - her son and black Lab dog he had at 10 - and David is 49 now. Then asked how David's 2 BOYS are - he (widowed a year ago) has only a daughter, Kate, now 14.

With very poor balance and terribly forgetful and 'lost,' she next week will be in a luxury Assisted Living facility a mile from Jessie's house in Sumter - the Assistant Manager is a family friend.

No more trips together for the two of us back to our childhood haunts all over Florida, and beautiful spots we know so well - Anna Maria Island, Bulow Creek, etc...no 'schedule,' but free-flowing, guided by our whims, and full of private jokes and laughter, with a sense of the utterly absurd..:))

But those precious memories are ours, and I was much relieved when she called me yesterday from Jessie's, sounding better, although said she had fallen again the day before...plaintively said "I can't go back to the Big House" (the one in Summerton sold years ago, expanding her lake house to over 3000 square feet for permanent living).
She bemoaned the fact she had't yet seen "David's baby," a girl now 2 months old - no - 2 weeks old, correcting herself.

Never to drive again will be so hard for her, in adult life financially secure and able to go wherever (worldwide) she wanted - and did, when she wanted.
The bright moment came when she suddenly said, "I miss our special times together..." - so she DOES remember our always close connection, and some of the memories!

It will be a couple of weeks before we can travel there to see her, after she is settled in. Our own ability to travel is extremely complicated, but it's vital to be with her, no matter what.

Do please remind your loved ones often what they mean to you, everyone...
