A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Top Ten Reasons I Don't Have
a Really Neat Post For Today

10.  Dutchess has been giving me flying lessons.
......YIKES!!!

 9.  I'm still organizing the Bear Family Album.

 8.  The dog ate my "Google" bookmark.

 7.  With all the rain we've had, I've had to build
......an ark and have been gathering up the
......neighborhood critters, two by two. (What a job!)

 6.  I've been running the numbers on the best bet to
......win Saturday's "Run for the Roses".

 5.  I went kayaking with DollyCali down
......the Cuyahoga River.

 4.  Aquamarine and I have been picking flowers
......for the Finest table.

 3.  JustAmy and I have been taste-testing the tequila
......for tomorrow's Cinco De Mayo celebration.

 2.  The battery died on my search engine and I
......can't find a thing!

 1.  I had to go shopping with Billie for the perfect
......hat for the Kentucky Derby.....

....and, with her expert help and
keen eye for fashion, I found it!!!

So, is it any wonder I
didn't get a post finished???

Okay, none of these things actually happened
(but they could have!).

Also the keyword "notmyfault" works great as well.
But only if I get to the thread first.

Please 'bear'with me, Mama, taking advantage of those pictures of our V-P's wife to interject something about the recent travels of our Senate Majority Leader.

As everyone knows, Bill Frist is a physician as well as a Senator, and while in Israel, stopped at a hospital there.

"Through an interpreter, Senate Majority Leader Bill
Frist, M.D., discusses how two-year old Halle feels
after having a fungus removed from her forehead.
She is with her mother in the Pediatric Emergency Room
of the Hadassah University Hospital in Jerusalem."

Here is his May 3rd account of his activities during his visit to Israel:

========================================

I'm in Jerusalem tonight after having a full day of meetings and seeing several historically significant sights. This is my second time to Israel, I was here in 1997, so I'm getting a chance to see the dramatic changes underway in the region.

I started my visit by exploring the Old City. We stopped at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and the Temple Mount and visited the Wailing Wall. I've been overwhelmed by its holiness and history; easy to understand its significance to all.

Toured the Hadassah Hospital--Womens and Childrens hospital supported by many in the U.S. Over the last 3 years have handled victims of 32 suicide attacks.

Met with Dep. PM Shimon Peres and discussed regional politics and the Roadmap.

Talked with Speaker of Parliament Rivlin and Foreign Affairs/Defense Committee Minister Steinetz--Speaker is my counterpart in the Knesset. Spoke about his views in opposition to disengagement from Gaza.

Overflight of Jerusalem Security Fence--Spent an hour in the air with the architect/builder of the fence.

Met with PM Ariel Sharon and discussed his plans to disengage from Gaza.

Met with Minister Natan Sharansky--Israeli minister who spent years in a Soviet prison and wrote an influential book on the transformative power of democracy.

Meeting with Benjamin Netanyahu--current Finance Minister.

Praised President Bush's leadership in promoting democracy around the world.

Busy day; look forward to meetings tomorrow with Palestinian leadership and then on to Jordan.

Bill Frist

========================================
It is gratifying he is doing extensive homework for his leadership responsibilities.

Consider how terribly difficult are the positions of our leadership
with all the liberals screaming and dragging their heels.

Nuff sed....

A PRAYER FOR OUR FINEST .. THE MOST EXTRAORDINARY ARMED FORCES IN THE UNIVERSE!! GOD BLESS THEM AND THEIR FAMILIES .. WE CAN NEVER REPAY THEIR HONOR, DUTY, COURAGE AND SACRIFICE!!!

I Am A Soldier

I am a soldier. My blood permeates the soil of many countries.

I have gasped my last breath on many a desolate stretch of beach. For you...all of you, the children who play in the parks, the mothers who watch over them, the fathers who struggle to sustain them.

There are those here who have belittled and reviled me, who have made a mockery of me and what I stand for. You, also, have I suffered and died for. I withstood heat, insects and disease so the right to dissent would be yours.

I endured the pain and terror of battle and the maiming of my body to ensure that you might worship as you please. I died in agony in order that you, no matter who or what you are, have the freedom to choose your own destinies.

AND I WOULD DO IT AGAIN because I believe in the ideals that made this country what it is today... FREE. I love her with a deep and abiding love that transcends mere physical pain.

I AM A SOLDIER. Pray that I will always be there, for if I disappear from this country, so will you.

~~Annonymous

Oh thus be it ever when free men shall stand between their 'loved homes and the War's desolation. Blessed with Victory and Peace may the Heaven rescued land praise the power that hath made and preserved us a nation.

Then conquer we must when our cause it is just and this be our motto: In God is our Trust And the Star Spangled Banner in Triumph shall wave O'er the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.

Francis Scott Key

=========================================================

Prayers and tears today for our incredibly decent and humane fighting forces.

Forgot to tell you that was a great picture of you in that flamboyant hat, you're lookin good. :)

Thank you. In real life I look just plain silly in hats. LOL. That's why I don't wear them.

Billie made me wear a hat. Said I couldn't go to the Kentucky Derby if I didn't. ;-)

THE BRICK

A young and successful executive was traveling down a neighborhood street,
going a bit too fast in his new Jaguar. He was watching for kids darting
out from between parked cars and slowed down when he thought he saw something. As his car passed, no children appeared.
Instead, a brick smashed into the Jag's side door! He slammed on the brakes
and backed the Jag back to the spot where the brick had been thrown. The
angry driver then jumped out of the car, grabbed the nearest kid and pushed him up against a parked car shouting, "What was that all about and who are you? Just what the heck are you doing? That's a new car and that brick you threw is going to cost a lot of money.
"Why did you do it?" he snapped. The young boy was apologetic.
"Please, mister...please, I'm sorry but I didn't know what else to do," He
pleaded. "I threw the brick because no one else would stop..." With tears
dripping down his face and off his chin, the youth pointed to a spot just
around a parked car. "It's my brother, "he said. "He rolled off the curb
and fell out of his wheelchair and I can't lift him up."

Now sobbing, the boy asked the stunned executive, "Would you please help me get him back into his wheelchair? He's hurt and he's too heavy for me."

Moved beyond words, the driver tried to swallow the rapidly swelling lump
in his throat. He hurriedly lifted the handicapped boy back into the
wheelchair, then took out a linen handkerchief and dabbed at the fresh
scrapes and cuts. A quick look told him everything was going to be okay.
"Thank you and may God bless you," the grateful child told the stranger.
Too shook up for words, the man simply watched the boy push his
wheelchair-bound brother down the sidewalk toward their home.

It was a long, slow walk back to the Jaguar. The damage was very
noticeable, but the driver never bothered to repair the dented side door.
He kept the dent there to remind him of this message: "Don't go through
life so fast that someone has to throw a brick at you to get your
attention!" God whispers in our souls and speaks to our hearts. Sometimes
when we don't have time to listen, He has to throw a brick at us. It's our
choice to listen or not.

Thought for the Day:

If God had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it.
If He had a wallet, your photo would be in it.

He sends you flowers every spring.

He sends you a sunrise every morning. Face it, friend - He is crazy about you!

Send this to every "beautiful person" you wish to bless.

God didn't promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, sun without
rain, but He did promise strength for the day, comfort for the tears, and light for the way.

Read this line very slowly and let it sink in...

If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it.

Pass this message to seven people except you and me.

You will receive a miracle tomorrow ( just do it)!
