Most of Mrs. Bush's humor at the correspondents' dinner was just right: Edgy but not over the edge. But I think the stripper and horse jokes were totally beneath her.
Just put it to the other-shoe test: If it were Teresa Heinz Kerry standing up on the dais telling the same jokes, the conservative commentariat would be buzzing for the rest of the year about what a tasteless skank she is.

some people here do careIf my credability is damaged by not caring how long someone has been registered on FR then so be it.
What is it with you people?
What?! I can't be part of the club because I didn't sign up untill late last year?
Well hell, here is a shock for you, I've been a member since 1999! I Freeped the Chinese Embasy when they were holding our downed airmen. Bet you didn't know that did you?
I had to leave FR for a while because my old PC died and I didn't have the money to replace it. As soon as I got the money I got the PC AND came back!
So DON'T lecuture me about people caring about how long ANYONE has been here.
If they are THAT petty then they can go straight to Hel@. You included.
Oh, and my old screen name was bayliving just in case you were wondering.

I have always liked Michelle Malkin. She tells it like it is on immigration issues and says the same things most of us feel about illegal immigrants and the governments unwillingness to do anything about it. I may not exactly agree with her on this issue, but so what? FReepers can't agree on most issues either, can we?

I think you're right about what you posted about the two different factions of the Republican party. I just never noticed it as much as I have in the last few months.
You should meet some of my relatives. Some of them think laughing is a sin period. And those sour faces are a mix of Democrats and Republicans. I simply refer to them as miserable and misery loves company. I ignore them otherwise it feeds into their self appointed martyrship.

With rare exception, the party and probably to a point Mr. Rove marketed the President as a Christian man divinely guided by God and placed in the job by God himself. They put the President and the First Lady on a religious pedestal. Utter rubbish.
Almost to a man, even the most ardent pro lifers abandoned one of their own (the constitution party candidate) for Mr. Bush.
ROFLMAO; sure. The Constitution Party that couldn't even agree on which ROOM to meet in was going to win this election?
Not only was the election expected to be close, as it was, but I even heard some very ardent consitution party supporters admit that the President was the right Christian man who wouldn't disappoint them, becasue being a lame duck, he didn't have to worry about re-election again. Get him elected, and he would pay the Christians back for their support by advancing their agenda.
And this is your first mistake: believing what the right wingers tell you: for your information, and just so I'll know you know, Karl Rove didn't even COUNT on the religious right vote in 2004 because YOU ALL STAYED HOME IN A SNIT in 2000. The GOP of tired of being blackmailed by you all!

I was dying laughing at her remarks about going to Chippendales.....and then saying that she would not have told but Sandra Day O'Connor and Ruth Ginsberg saw them there. Me too! And yeah, it was written for her, but her delivery was perfect and natural. Thumbs up to the First Lady!
To: Soul Seeker
There are a couple of sectors within the party. One sector is hard core RR. Another is a moderate evangelical sector. And then there are the secular conservatives who are pretty much party first. None of these sectors is 100% one way or the other. But for the most part, there is a pattern within them.

The horse jokes weren't bad or out of line, but just out of character.
That's precisely why it was so funny.

I'm not a big fan of the argument either, because I've seen some new contributor make immediate valuable contributions. Some far in excess of the curmudgeons who have been here since the early days.
On the other hand, there is a comfort level with posters that have contributed thousands of posts since their signup date. You know where they're coming from and you're far less likely to misunderstand the point they're trying to make.
New screen names tend to have a higher rate of troll, infiltrator, and troublemaker than folks with a track history of at least a couple of active years. That's just a fact.
I don't know what the magic number here is. It's at least a couple of months of active posting on a variety of topics. You can't get acquainted with everyone all at once, although some have tried.
I don't know who you were in your past FR life, but if you've been here for any appreciable time you'll know that newcomers are inherently distrusted because they often deserve it.

Or post on every thread like Chicken Little that the sky is falling.
I love normal debate about important issues but this B.S. is just an opportunity for those with underlying personal problems to strike out and belittle someone to make themselves seem just a little bigger.

we need all of them to win. so it doesn't pay to offend even a small percentage of them over an event like this.
