Noting that in his Good Friday homily soon-to-be pope Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger condemned the "filth there is in the church," Wheeler believes the pontiff "will not tolerate [homosexuality's] presence in his church."

They also need to clean up the religious orders -- the monks and nuns and friars and sisters -- not just the priests, bishops, and cardinals.

>>>>>But ultimately, all we have to do is examine the fruits of the popes and we know them by their fruit. The main and most telling fruit is Marianism.

The main and most telling fruit of Roman Catholicism is that it has succeeded in spreading the Gospel all over the planet. The Roman Catholic Church is by far the largest Christian denomination in the world, as it has been throughout history, and it is the Christian denomination that has done more than any other to spread knowledge of Christ throughout the world.

Sorry, I was going to put "LOL" after my commment but spaced it off in 10 short seconds. It was a lighthearted comment regarding the phrase you used "arguable areas of dogma and doctrine." My point is that I find it humorous. I guess the best way to put it is that mentioning dogmas that are arguable is a sure way of finding the divisions among people of faith!

"Perhaps the reason why more Masses aren't offered in Latin is because folks prefer the Mass in the vernacular."

Or maybe, there are so few churches that offer latin mass that it is hard to get to. Being pregnant and having 2 small children to get ready, it's hard enough just to get to my parish. If I have to drive an additional 30+ miles to get there, chances are slim that I will attend. Now, if my parish offered Latin at 8 and NO at 10, I'd probably choose the 8 o'clock Mass. Just another possibility!

Dear xsmommy,

Well, the Diocese of Arlington is less than half of the Washington, DC area, and of course, when one says, "Washington," in Catholic terms, most folks will think "Archdiocese of Washington."

That being said, although a high percentage of parishes in the Diocese of Arlington have at least one Spanish-language Mass per weekend, a quick perusal indicates that about 60% of the parishes listed at the diocesan website do not have Spanish-language Masses. Forty percent is considerably higher than in the Archdiocese of Washington, but it is not nearly "every church in the DC area [or more appropriately, the Diocese of Arlington] has at least one spanish mass, usually two."

Dear samiam1972,

Well, as I explained in the post to which you responded, we actually tried a Latin new rite Mass at our parish, and folks just didn't come out in large numbers.

As for old rite Latin Masses, there is an old rite Mass within 30 minutes driving time of most folks in our archdiocese. One of these Masses is very well attended, the other two are moderately-well attended (last time I checked, they each filled about half the church).

That works out to perhaps a thousand or so Catholics each Sunday out of around 200,000 who are in the pews each week.

It doesn't seem that there is much more demand here in this archdiocese for either the old or new rite in Latin.

That very well may be the case in your diocese. I guess it would be nice if all parishes were able to have that sort of "test" run. If it works in some areas, that would be wonderful. If it just doesn't take, then so be it. In our area, the earliest Mass isn't as full as the others. Maybe that would be a good place to start so as not to inconvenience so many people. Again, just a thought!

Your last paragraph in post #37,is the number one reason that the Church must not overturn the celibacy requirement. Most of the Catholics on this forum who "innocently" agitate for it are determined to destroy the Church. The wedge is to overturn the "discipline" thus giving weight to the to the homosexuals demand to marry also. After all, they will say,"obviously the Church recognizes that man cannot live without a sexual companion".

Thanks for the concise and wise words.

Thanks!
Seems obvious to me. The idea behind celibacy is good,IMO. It is perhaps the biggest sacrifice of all to overcome human sexual nature. I don't think the idea of self-sacrifice is bad if one wants to dedicated one's life to God.
The problem we have is that breaking the vow of celibacy is not punished. Priests with girlfriends are in instant trouble, priests having sex with each other, or other men, has been ignored and excused.

<< I hope this is truly what is going to happen and not some lazy reporter just half arsing a story. Some diocese' in the American Catholic Church are completely run and owned by active homosexuals.... it is like a YMCA fraternity.. Rome must PURGE this blackness from the church... I hope that this is going to come to pass.

Most lay Catholics have no idea how infiltrated and corrupted some of these diocese are. >>

Let US all pray then that they quickly get up to speed!

And that the "lay" everyone who believes our Judeo-Christian/Western Civilization aught be his grand-child's heritage quickly gets up to speed with them.

For the sodomists' attack on infiltration of and corruption of the Catholic Church has been only almost as thorough and as devastating to our Way of Life as has the sodomists' attacks upon infiltration of and corruption of the West's blood banks, its schools and universities -- and every other aspect of the Whited Sepuchre that is our very Judeo-Christian/Human Civilization!

And that is "indeed beautiful outwardly, but inside full of dead men's bones and of all [The barbaric sodomists' and every other form of] uncleanness."

And, as His Holiness clearly recognizes, the sodomists political agenda is but another manifestation of evil -- and sees to it that every activist sodomist and his every sympathizer and his every useful idiot is effectively as one with every other of the world's barbarians.

And we will lose sight of that simple Truth at our Civilization's peril.

I thank God His Holiness will call this assault's spade an effin' shovel!

Thank God for him!

Blessings -- B A
