De-homosexualization of the Catholic Church
WorldNet Daily ^ | 5/2/2005

Noting that in his Good Friday homily soon-to-be pope Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger condemned the "filth there is in the church," Wheeler believes the pontiff "will not tolerate [homosexuality's] presence in his church."

What no one is saying is that it isn't just homosexual priests; by now it's homosexual Bishops, Archbishops and Cardinals. The hierarchy that is going to be charged with 'cleaning house', needs cleaning itself. NO way can I believe that the 'filth' isn't it the highest levels of the church by now.
Those gay priests from the 50's-70's are now the elders of the church. Are they going to crack down on underlings when they, themselves are guilty? Will the underlings go quietly, or take the 'big guys' down with them?
I had a Catholic education- 12 years. My family has been Roman Catholic for as far back as I have traced it- the 12th century, and- as I have said on other threads- I'm for getting homosexuals out of the clergy even if it means there are 5 priests and 2 nuns left on the planet!
I consider homosexual priests an oxymoron. Whatever they do- from mass to the sacraments- is invalid IMO. I would have no problem at all asking any priest if he is homosexual before going to his mass or having him conduct any religious ceremony. We can only pray that, if we were baptized, married, given the sacraments by such priests, our souls are safe- since we trusted and didn't know they had broken their vows.
Yes, Jesus forgave sinners. He accepted Mary Magdalene. BUT- he said ' sin no more'. Priests who are having sex with little boys- and each other- sin twice. By being homosexual, and by breaking their vows of celibacy in being active homosexuals.
And as for allowing married priests solving the problem- consider this.
Will gay priests demand the 'same right' as the straight priests to marry ? If we don't cleanse the church of homosexual clergy, this WILL be the next dilemma. You can't say it's ok to be a gay priest but demand celibacy of them while straight priests can marry. They will want the right to marry who they 'love' as well!
Talk about a Pandora's box!

>> Wheeler says that's why the church is "riddled" with homosexuals today.

the catholic church is riddled with homosexuals because it is one of the few places a young homosexual can be employed and still have a credible explanation to the parents as to why he (or she) does not have a mate.

i always had a problem with the "roman" part of the catholic church. the romans were catholic murdering sodomite pigs, till constantine had his vision... then things supposedly changed... they used to feed us to lions, now they own the catholics. perhaps we get what we deserve for accepting their rule.

the romans had no problem with homosexual acts, they only cared about who was on top.

guess that is why i am a "lapsed" catholic today. i do not accept roman rule.

The Latin mass is more dignified, majestic, and a heck of a lot quieter! It also has not been watered down (I'm talkin' a real Latin mass, not a Novis Ordo(sp) mass) to the point of being a Protestant prayer service. It puts the focus on God, not the people.

Looks like a lot of seminaries' current classes are going to have to be evacuated. Some of them are like bath houses at this point.

I don't think permanent celibacy (in adulthood) is ever legitimate .....

Eh, tell it to that notorious bachelor Jesus Christ.

Or those terrible men John Paul II and Benedict XVI. Or Mother Teresa. Or St. Paul. Or...... well you get the picture.

"The Latin mass is more dignified, majestic, and a heck of a lot quieter!

Sorry, but I can't agree. I grew up in South Louisiana in the time frame when the Church in the US was transitioning from the Latin mass to the mass in English, and have attended Roman Catholic services in both. I see no real "language-specific" difference. The thing that makes the mass in English "less dignfied and magestic" is all the liberal "touchy-feely" stuff like the "sign of peace".

I grew up Episcopalian, and know for a fact that an English-language mass can be just as "dignified and majestic" as any mass in Latin. See any Anglican "high-church" service for examples.

"It also has not been watered down (I'm talkin' a real Latin mass, not a Novis Ordo(sp) mass) to the point of being a Protestant prayer service. It puts the focus on God, not the people."

"Watered down" how?? Again--if the translation from Latin to English is accurate, then how is that "watered down"??

You're a lapsed Catholic because you don't like the ancient Roman Empire?

Wow .... that's a new one.

Not knowing my Bible or history that well (I was raised Catholic), I have a question: Were there any other "bachelors" or "celibate" clerics or scholars, etc., men during Jesus' time?

Another South Louisianan here. You make an important point!
I was in highschool when the nuns went to regular clothes, the Mass went English and guitars came in.
It wasn't that they dropped Latin mass and went to English. If it had been a simple translation of language that would have been one thing. It was the abrupt shift from stately, traditional Latin to Woodstock love-in with guitars. It was jarring, even to a teen- many adult and elderly Catholics no longer recognized their religion at all.

I was serioiusly considering entering the convent at the time, and I was VERY encouraged by the nuns who taught me. Then, literally overnight, those same nuns came to school without their habits- in regular dress; skirts, blouses, stockings, makeup! They were 'just like us'. So where was their sacrifice? Why become a nun when we were all the same?

Our psyches were profoundly affected. The mass, nuns, priests- it was all 'commonized' overnight. The church began 'coming down' to the people, where we always believed it was supposed to bring the people up to it.
The affection for Latin mass is just that- affection. A longing for the specialness and the mystery and something in life that steps away from the common and aspires to the infinite.
Why NOT Latin mass? It's just language. Why is this language forbidden?

Yes. Clerics/scholars were allowed to postpone marriage to concentrate entirely on their studies -- their vocation. Certain Jewish sects encouraged (mandated?) celibacy. There was a tradition of celibacy among prophets, from Elijah and Jeremiah to John the Baptist in Jesus' time.

For a full explanation of the theology of celibacy: http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/congregations/cclergy/documents/rc_con_cclergy_doc_01011993_theol_en.html

Good!! Anyone who serves the Lord Jesus christ should be tough as nails in dealing with sin. Of any kind, not just the abomination of sodomy.

Last night on EWTN was a program called Catechism. The guy who was lecturing, I guess a monk, was really great. He said 'look, it might be tempting to take the I'm ok you're ok approach with homosexuals because we love them. But, only the truth can set you free, and the truth is that it is a sin. We all have a cross to bear, and for homosexuals, it is a life of celibacy, just as it is for me."

It may not be the best anology, but if Benedict is going to purge the "filth" from the American Church, it will be war. A thoroughly justified and necessary one.

Read a missal published before 1965. Read the mass. Then, go to your local Catholic church and read the mass in the prayer books. You will see quite a difference.

Not to discount your experience, but please consider the totality of mine. Lifelong Catholic, attended masses in a gazillion churches. Vatican II changed the language of the mass to the vernacular so the people could follow along and participate. Don't ask me how it happened, but each parish (not your county) celebrates Mass differently. With traditional Latin Masses, ya gots yer High Mass and yer Low Mass. Other than candles and music, they're all pretty much the same. Sameness is good. :)

I hope this is truly what is going to happen and not some lazy reporter just half arsing a story.

A report to a reporter from an un-named Vatican source? I'm waiting to hear more.
