A legal group representing a woman who says abortion-clinic employees refused to help her baby boy when he was born alive in a restroom has filed two complaints against the facility with Florida state regulatory agencies.
As WorldNetDaily reported, the mother, Angele, who asked that her last name not be used, traveled from out of state to the EPOC Clinic of the Orlando Women's Center in Orlando, Fla., for a second-trimester abortion.
She claims on the first day she visited the clinic staff failed to inject the unborn baby with digoxin, a drug that stops his or her heart in preparation for what amounts to a stillborn birth.
After taking labor-inducing drugs the next morning, Angele arrived at the clinic and was left alone in a cold "delivery room." Her labor increased greatly, she says, and she delivered the 22-week-along baby in the restroom.
Angele says she saw that her son was moving and cried for help, but that a staff member discounted her claim and refused to do anything to help the baby. According to his mother, the boy, whom she named Rowan, died about 11 minutes after birth.
"Amazingly, during this entire process, no physician was even present at the abortion clinic," said a statement from Liberty Counsel, the pro-life law organization that is representing Angele.
Liberty Counsel says it has filed complaints with the Florida Department of Health and the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration
The complaint filed Wednesday with the Department of Health is against Harry Perper, M.D., who performed the first-day procedures but was not present the second day, and against James Pendergraft, M.D., who owns and supervises the clinic.
Said Liberty Counsel: "Several violations of Florida laws are detailed in the complaint. Among the violations are the complete absence of a doctor during the abortion procedure, causing a death certificate to improperly state that Rowan was stillborn, and a complete lack of post-operative care. After the procedure, Angele was rushed out the door and received no follow-up care. Importantly, Angele did not receive a rhogam shot, which was medically necessary for her, given her blood type."
The complaint filed with the Agency for Health Care Administration details the same violations of state law as the Department of Health complaint, but also focuses on the unsanitary conditions of the clinic. Angele says the room in the clinic had dried blood on the floor and the walls and a used, bloody cotton ball on the floor.
"We are hopeful that these complaints will lead to immediate change in the form of discipline against the doctors and revocation of the abortion license for the clinic," said Mathew Staver, president and general counsel of Liberty Counsel. "But we are also hopeful that these complaints will serve as the catalyst for long-term change. Abortion clinics are the least regulated medical facilities in the state of Florida. That needs to change. It is a travesty that tattoo parlors are more heavily regulated than abortion clinics.
"These doctors need to be held accountable for their actions, and we intend to pursue these complaints to that end. Part of promoting a culture of life in America means holding abortion doctors and clinics accountable when they violate the law."
The Rev. Patrick Mahoney of the Christian Defense Coalition has planned a press conference for this morning in front of the EPOC Clinic to protest what happened to Angele.
"It is barbarous to realize that this young child could have been saved if only clinic personnel had responded in a professional and timely manner," Mahoney said in a statement. "This tragic death shows that abortion clinics across the country are not committed to 'choice' as they often state, for the mother wanted to save this child, but rather are dedicated to a culture of death that results in violence against children and the exploitation of women. We are calling for a full investigation into this horrific death and pray that action is taken that would prevent it from ever happening again."
Said Troy Newman, director of pro-life group Operation Rescue: "Baby Rowan failed to receive compassion and justice in his short life here on earth. So together with his mother, Operation Rescue, will work passionately to ensure he receives the justice he clearly deserves. We are calling for the prosecution of all those involved in this horrible crime and are imploring officials to use all legal avenues available to them. This would include, the Born Alive Infant Protection Act passed by Congress."
A week ago, the Bush administration said it would begin enforcing the 3-year-old Born-Alive Infant Protection Act, which requires doctors to attempt to keep alive a baby that survives an abortion.
This chick is looking at nothing but the money and her 15 minutes of fame.
I would love to see it be mandatory for the "fetal tissue", to be placed in a clear plastic container. Require the mother that would have been to properly dispose of her deed.
"AMEN! That says it all."
Agreed!
And who knows, with the state of ignorance in this country, and the lies happily told to women by the professional baby killers, this woman may indeed have been extremely shocked and surprised when her fetus started to move and cry. She may have expected to give up something resembling tripe or scrambled eggs and then to see a recognizable baby, well, it must have been a real mind f*ck for her, excuse my language.
I hope they prevail to the utmost in their suit, but I have my doubts, this being Florida, which, Jeb Bush notwithstanding and all the fine people in the State, seems to want to become a death factory above all else.
The status of abortion in our country is, literally, insanity.
If she wants it killed, it's a thing.
If she wants it, it's a baby.
Magic!
Insanity.
And there are folks right here on FR who are OK with that.
Dan
Kansas Governor Sebelius just vetoed a bill that would require minimum licensing for abortion clinics. And the legislature failed to override her veto.
Even so, the Lord works in mysterious ways. She may be a vehicle by which that Florida death mill will be crunched.
i agree.
If she wants it, it's a baby.
Magic! Insanity. And there are folks right here on FR who are OK with that.
you NAILED it. Insanity.
Perefctly said.
I agree with you.
Barbarism.
I have just one: evil.
They did respond in a professional manner. Their profession is destroying lives not saving them.
Nor do I!
live abortion ping
You're probably right; but isn't it possible she had a terrible moment of truth when that tiny boy opened his mouth and cried?
--that in that moment she discovered the lie of Planned Parenthood propaganda, and realized that the unviable tissue mass, aka "fetus," really was her child?
Thanks for making us aware of the personal responsibility of this woman as well. The abortion supporters always ask well are you going to jail the abortion seeking women?
She complains that the hired assasin didn't kill the baby in her womb before she could see him but yet after he was born she could see him wanted him to live.
AS long as abortion is legal and a recognized business, she cannot be tried for doing something legal.
Abortion will end when all doctors adhere to the original Hypocratic Oath. Abortionists are like drug dealers. Police try to cut out the dealer. If we cut off the supply of abortionists women would be forced to self abort and as we have seen can be tried for manslaughter.
We know that many women do die when they go to state sanctioned killing centers ( A fact that is under reported) just as some women would die when they self abort. But that would become her "choice and her responsibility."
The consequences of her "Choice" would then fall solely upon her and knowing the consequences of her actions would be a huge deterrent in having sex outside of marriage.
You should read the case against this abortionist on extortion, libel and threats to sue a Florida town if they refuse his attempt to open another clinic. This death merchant owns the Ocala Women's Center and four other clinics, in Orlando, Tampa and Fort Lauderdale, all of which perform abortions as reported in Ocala Star Banner, Friday, January 12, 2001.
Read and weep the rulings of our out of control judiciary.

interesting link! coincidentally, this morning a friend was telling me about Pendergraft's jail time.
but the mother was already fullly aware of this--maybe more so than many women having abortions.
to illustrate, the following is a post from a freeper known as i still care from the other related thread to this story. this post sums it all up (and thank you, i-still-care, for condensing angele's quotes in a powerful way:

Often I have sympathy for these women because I truly feel they are deceived about the nature of the baby. I've seen clinics lie their faces off about what the "products of conception" are.
This story makes me sick. It's very, very clear she knew she was murdering someone, masked in her concern that the baby didn't suffer.
Note the following statements:
"I told them that I had made previous arrangements for him to be picked up by the funeral director."
"I could feel the baby still moving. I told my friend this worried me. I remember thinking it must take time to slow down and stop his heart."
"I wanted it to be as humane and painless as possible for my son," she said, choking back tears. "They told me they would guide a needle directly into his heart and it would put him to sleep, and he wouldn't feel anything."
"I was concerned that it would hurt the baby as it generally (from what I've read) burns the skin and lungs. I expressed my concerns that he not suffer or feel anything."
"Although 'labor and delivery' is most difficult on the mother," she explained, "it seemed to be the best choice for my son. And it would allow the opportunity for my son to be born whole, stillborn, and I could hold him and grieve him and have him cremated."
"I chose Bible verses for his service and everything."
My God, did she she think she was at the vet thinking she was having a dog put to sleep? She absolutely knew she was killing her own son. She is a true murderess. I don't care what her rationale was.
EXCELLENT point.
