Pretty good list. I can't argue with any of it except for Space: Above and Beyond. That was some of the best writing (dialogue) I have ever seen. I would have to put it in the top 5 on my list.

Heh... I'm with you on Earth Final Conflict being horrible.

Now if you want to talk classic Sci Fi... lets talk "Space Precinct". I was only like 10 at the time, but I remember that being a different type of show. Differnt POV of the future.

Things were dirty, and hecktic... much more shadowrun than trek.

If anyone ever finds any Space:AAB or Space Precinct torrents to DL pls message me (again, as long as there is no DVD for sale, I feel it is totally within our rights to download and/or share info about downloading)

Sorry to keep bumping this, but I just heard something about what I was complaing about before.

Seems SCI-FI doesn't even need a man / animal hybrid anymore for their LAME ASS 'monster of the week' specials.

Just saw a commercial for a show next saturday night for "MAN-THING"

Yes thats right.. a man crossed with a THING... BAM! MAN-THING is born!

The lack of creativity or originality is downright PA-THE-TIC.

You are correct, but so am I.

You bring up more reasons that the establishment does not like good science fiction. Good intentions do not mean you will do good and decisions have consequences, often unintended. Two messages the moral relativist do not want people to learn.

THe entire Dune series, which can be adequately reviewed and summed up in three words: Complex Loveless Joyless

I think (one man's opinion) that that's unfair to the very first book in the series. Can't disagree with you after that, though.

Mm; you're thinking of the love Leto and Jessica shared, and their love for Paul? And his for Chani? And maybe even Kynes' for the planet? If so, you've a good point. No joy, though; gloating, mirthless exultation, but not joy.

But in reflecting, I've thought of a fourth word: calculating.

That's the best single word I can think of to sum up viewing people and events detachedly as objects to be manipulated drily and cold-bloodedly.

Dan

Ah, Cowgirl from "Tek Wars", another great shatner acting job.

Best part of the show, bes Lexi was the end song by Warren Zevon.

I do remember Lexa playing "Cowgirl", dts. IIRC, Lexa is married to Michael Shanks (Dr. Daniel Jackson of SG-1)

Jack.

I read the 1st 3 Dune books years ago when they were still new. Years later I read them again and actually all 6 (or was it 7?) books by Herbert before he died. The series kept getting stranger with the Duncan Idaho clones. I would not consider reading the later sequels by his son.

Dune was OK but a bit odd. Asimov likely inspired him.

You might like to read Neverness sometime if you liked Dune.

Bruce Sterling is another writer who I enjoyed some time ago, but I have not read anything by him in years now.

I have no idea about these televison programs that are mentioned in this thread other than Star Trek.
