FORT MYERS, Fla. -- An 81-year-old woman preparing to take a test drive at a car dealership hit her husband, a salesman, a car and a tree before running into a wall. "She must have panicked," said Joe Sica, sales manager at Honda of Fort Myers.
The new Honda Accord shot backward after Dorothy Byrum got behind the wheel....the car was written off.

She probably stepped on the gas instead of the brake, and then panicked.

I didn't know a car could "shoot backward" of it's own accord. The writer of the article likely forgot to mention the part about the lady putting her foot on the gas, thinking it was the brake, while the car was in reverse.

Will be written off as another disoriented senior. These incidents are common in FL.
To: Constitution Day
That's what I would say...
But nowdays they have everything insured because they know that some people that come in to test drive are dead beats and if something happened during the test drive they would be out a car... hence write off.
To: soundandvision
She must have tried to drive one of those new fangled cars where they switch the gas and brake peddle around.
To: soundandvision
the car was written off. What about the people who were run down? Were they written off as well?
