Open letter warns of blood and revenge
3 May 2005
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "AMSTERDAM Mohammed B., the man arrested for the murder of Theo Van Gogh, wrote an "open letter to the Dutch people" before the attack warning they will pay in blood for the slaughter of millions of Muslims.
Public prosecutor Koos Plooy stressed in Rotterdam Court on Tuesday that the letter was no joke or an idle boast.
B. starts his letter full of praise for Allah and writes that God has instructed Muslims to "kill them", referring to "the non-believing people of the Netherlands".
He praised the 11 September terrorist attacks in the US and cursed the co-operation between the US and the Netherlands in "the fight for world dominion between belief and unbelief".
Referring to victims of what he sees as the US-led aggression in Muslim countries, the 27-year-old Dutch-Moroccan said that as "culprits of the death and torture of our brothers and sisters you must pay your debt with your own blood"."

What a list Cindy! I would have thought it to be bigger.
Ann Coulter even made it.

Your "What?" is my "What?" about Zarqawi in Oklahoma City. Those expendable non-Arab Muslims have the greatest potential to cause us horrific grief. Dept. of Immigration should be taking notes and checking them twice when it comes to who they permit or authorize to study, work or become citizens here. If we are attacked again, blame will certainly be placed and names and agencies involved will be taken over the coals, if they themselves survive whatever horror is planned for us.
Believe me I know they are "victims." Supported by the liberals, the Hollywood crowd, the ACLU, CAIR and Google. If I read it in most of the countries newspapers, it must be true, mustn't it? What was I thinking that people, organizations that supposedly represent "fairness and dignity," print, TV and radio media along with internet search engines might actually support their country and its leaders?
Well that's interesting. Thanks Velveeta.
Chilling article but right on target IMO. Thanks Cindy.
Feds Find Millions Wasted On Border Camera System
Audit Sparked By KIRO Team 7 Investigation
Chris Halsne
POSTED: 4:12 pm PST January 13, 2005
UPDATED: 1:55 pm PDT April 22, 2005
A Team 7 Investigation into a defective camera surveillance system along the U.S.-Canadian border has sparked a massive federal probe.
Now, the results are in: Auditors say taxpayers paid millions of dollars for "phantom" cameras, missing parts and fraudulent repair bills.
Two years ago, we showed you how a border security tool called "Remote Video Surveillance" was badly broken. Now, the U.S. Inspector General confirms our findings in a 423-page audit, plus adds new charges of fraud and tax waste.
Computerized, see-all cameras scan the Washington-British Columbia border for intruders day and night. That is, when they're working.
A KIRO Team 7 Investigation discovered thousands of breakdowns in the first year of operation.
The U.S. Inspector General used our investigations as a base for an audit, which details millions of dollars in tax waste and potential criminal fraud.
"I thought it was just blatant, the overcharging on cameras, the substitution of cheaper cameras, the out-and-out charging of cameras and poles that didn't even exist. I mean, I was stunned how thorough the report was," said Gene Davis, a retired Sector Assistant Border Patrol Chief.
Davis said contractors' over-billing is serious, but these days, failures in security systems can be catastrophic.
"To perpetuate this kind of fraud, I mean, not only rip off taxpayers, but the danger, the peril it puts the country in," he said.
According to the federal probe, straight north of Seattle, taxpayers paid for 36 remote video camera sites, but only 32 actually exist. Just that is $1 million in over-billing.
Other problems detailed in the audit included unsupported use of time and materials, misuse of funds, inadequate or non-existent bidding and a finding that 96 percent of the parts used to repair cameras "could not be traced."
Border Patrol spokesperson Jo Giuliano said private contractors and faulty equipment are largely to blame for camera problems, but
"We're stewards of the public's money. They're entitled to be assured that money is being spent as well as it can be and the product they purchase with that money is being used to its full capability," Giuliano said.
This audit finding is more than just tax waste, and could lead to a criminal prosecution. Taxpayers paid $6.7 million to operate a camera repair operation, which the Department of Homeland Security says "little or no work was performed during the past year."
"If they don't go forward and someone held accountable for this, what kind of message does that set for other contractors out there?" asked Gene Davis.
KIRO Team 7 Investigators were also the first to expose how a Texas congressman's daughter grabbed a $200 million no-bid contract to install the camera surveillance systems first in Blaine, then nationwide.
The Inspector General found that odd as well.
I'm told by sources inside that agency that parts of this could be forwarded to the Justice Department as a criminal case.

SNIP: Are we safe
Congress' Government Accountability Office reported in March that, mainly because of gun owners' privacy rights, the FBI or state officials were unable to stop 47 of the 58 gun purchases by people who were on the FBI's own terrorist "watch list" (during a nine-month period last year).
A February report of the Department of Homeland Security's inspector general accused the agency of intentionally disbursing seaport-security grant money widely across the country instead of greatly increasing inspections at the 10 ports through which nearly 80 percent of trade moves (a practice that resulted in maritime grants for Oklahoma, Kentucky, New Hampshire and Tennessee).
All responsible for the money and time wastage on this project should be held liable and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. National security is not a joke, a typical slow-paced government project nor a money-pit that US taxpayers want to subsidize while their personal safety is jeopardized. It's time people on the government dole (subcontractors and politicians included) got real with those who hired and elected them.

These people are in MY country. "Officials" say it has nothing to do with terrorism. I am disgusted. Where is the outrage? Do "officials" have any common sense?
Great list 'o links MamaD. The "SNIP" leaves me speechless; not an easy thing to do.
I wondered how long it would take for Syrian bad guys to start retaliating.

It's Pakistan, Stupid!
By Paul Sperry
FrontPageMagazine.com | May 6, 2005
Law enforcement has a term for the period after a crisis when things revert to norm -- condition white. Well, the American people are just about there, three-and-a-half years after the 9/11 attacks.
But as the media obsess over Michael Jackson's favorite lubricants and Paula Abdul's dalliances with idol wannabes, al-Qaida is "very active" recruiting and planning to attack the United States again. "As months and years pass," Vice President Dick Cheney warns, "they are hoping that our country will grow complacent" and forget the horror of 9/11. And they're getting their wish, judging from the picayune issues that are catching the nation's attention now.
Cheney echoed President Bush's own warning a few days earlier to resist the urge to lower our guard. "One of my concerns after September the 11th is the farther away we got from September the 11th, the more relaxed we would all become and assume that there wasn't an enemy out there ready to hit us," Bush asserted.
Do they know something we don't? Short answer: yes.
Behind the scenes, homeland security officials are wringing their hands over intelligence indicating al-Qaida is preparing to attack major American cities, including Washington, using Pakistani nationals and possibly Pakistani-Americans.
