Schindler Coroner Nixed from Terri Autopsy

Dr. Cyril H. Wecht, the well-known forensic pathologist and coroner of Allegheny County, Pa., told listeners of a morning radio show that he was denied permission to observe Terri Schiavo's autopsy, despite the wishes of her parents.

A medical examiner in Pinellas County, Florida, is conducting an autopsy that could help determine what Schiavo's state of consciousness was and whether she was abused by her husband, as the Schindlers allege. Wecht, appearing on the syndicated America's Morning Show with Quinn and Rose, based in Pittsburgh, said that an investigator working for the Schindler's law firm had called him on Thursday to see whether he would be agreeable to observing the autopsy.

Dr. Wecht told Quinn and Rose he was certainly be agreeable to that, but that several hours later he received word that the medical examiner had declined to give him permission.

Dr. Wecht told the morning hosts that he considered this a mistake, according to Rose Somma Tennent. "He said that, if this were in [his] office, [he] would have said sure - not just because of professional courtesy, but because of the controversy sourrounding this case," Somma Tennet said.

Calls made during the show to the medical examiner's office were not returned.

The results from the autopsy are expected in a few weeks.

Really not a whole lot to say that you cannot find on the internet. I worked as a Taxi driver in the area years ago, some of what I heard could very well have been "stories", but it was well known in the area that you did not say anything against the Scientologists. Their headquarters consisted of quite a few buildings in the downtown area that you had to pass when going to clearwater beach.

Was a big stink quite a few years ago about people having to be deprogrammed, that for some odd reason has never been mentioned in years, guess the attorney they had (he insisted if you said anything about the Scientologists they would sue you into bankruptcy), pretty much scared anyone from even mentioning the "Church" in a bad light.

Their version of the Earth's history isn't anything like most, unless of course you consider Aliens as part of your history. L Ron Hubbert was their founder, might want to read up on it.

This is horseshit, why not let the man watch the procedure unless there's something to hide? This entire saga has been horseshit step by step of the way, almost unbelievable. I will NEVER set foot in the state of Florida as long as I live. I'm not even going to drink Florida orange juice! :-|

We must also remember that Cyril Wecht is a liberal and said some nasty stuff about Christians during the last election. He is also fair and a rabid defender of his profession. He would never ever let anyone conduct a sloppy autopsy and he's still recognized as the best in the business.

At first glance, the Pinellas Co. ME is not tied to the whole Greer-Felos-Rice axis there. He was brought in specifically to replace a corrupt ME, is in his mid-30s and was educated in Texas. Furthermore, I really don't expect this autopsy to show anything. Everybody knows what happened to Terri over the last 15 years (although a report with all of the neglect summed very neatly will not look good for Michael).

But as to broken bones, etc., I don't expect to find them. There were no reports of abuse from Michael before Terri's collapse. If she had a broken bone, let alone several, it would have been known by lots of people. She may have broken ribs as a result of CPR.

I'm quite sure she was verbally abused by Michael. Often. And cruelly. But I expect no new info from the autopsy. If I were an ME, I wouldn't want Cyril Wecht looking over my shoulder.

And Schiavo will want his as well, to make sure that there is no funny business on the part of his in-laws.

I didn't know Mr. Schindler was a coroner. Mr. Schiavo, however, has many many ties to Pinellas County government.

I have been posting that link for several days and saying that we should wait until the autopsy is complete before we start bashing the ME as being in MS's pocket. I also noted the following part in bold in my posts...

More recently, in Miami, at the Dade County Medical Examiner Office and IACP Seminar, he taught a course on Strangulation and Other Compressions.

I thought it was interesting in light of the charges leveled at MS of strangulation as the cause of Terri's condition. That being said...this stinks to high heaven. There should be independent observers on both sides, not necessarily Wecht, but if her family chose him, so be it.

Every step in this sad tell, contains creditable, objective observers hotly disputing MS's version of events. Only those paid by MS support anything he says. Maybe the ME will not cover Judge Greers behind, maybe he will. Certainly Someone outside of the state of Fla needs to examine her body. A big city ME that has seen it all would be my choice.

And why is Jeb letting this last final injustice to Terri happen? The least he could do is remove any doubt by two independent examines.
