TV ad pokes fun at rival's appearance on NBC's "The Apprentice"
Associated Press
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Pizza giant Papa John's aired a commercial poking fun at a rival's featured appearance on NBC's "The Apprentice" Thursday night.
The Louisville-based pizza delivery chain aired a 30-second ad during the broadcast of the NBC reality show with real-estate mogul Donald Trump. On the show, two teams were tasked with creating a new pizza idea for Domino's, a competitor of Papa John's based in Ann Arbor, Mich.
In the ad, Papa John's founder and chairman John Schnatter is shown in a boardroom setting asking "Why eat a pizza made by apprentices when you can call the pros at Papa John's?"
Trump sits in a similar boardroom during the reality series.
Papa John's also used the ad to introduce a new "Spicy Meatball" pizza.
Papa John's said in a statement the ad was scheduled to run in 64 television markets Thursday night.
The only reason anyone gets Chuck E. Cheese Pizza is because they are trapped there at a birthday party or som eother obnoxious event with their kids. If we ever have to go there I usually try to dull the experience with a couple beers - that always helps.
Been to Chicago, tried several of the so called "great local places"... found them to generally be crap.. If I wanted crackers topped with pasta sauce maybe I would have liked it.. but it was bad.
New York does have some good Pizzarias.
Pizza King (Sir Pizza to most of you non-Hoosiers) is 10 times better than Papa John's, though. ;)
Uno's hard to beat
Of course that's why, but for as much as they charge for it, it should at least resemble Pizza.
For the record, this thread is indicative of the problem in manufacturing pizza. It is difficule to achieve consistant quality control when there are so many variables, the most important of which are the age, iq and attirude of the preparer.
Having rejected Dominoes, and Little Caesers and living beyond the reach of Papa John's I order Pizza Hut Delivery. The quality though unacceptably inconsistant for most consumer products still averages out best.
Why ham and not peppiromi or sausage someone asked? Age and digestive difficulties.
I had my usual Wednesday...thin and crispy with ham and pineapple. The topping was not uniformly appiled and appeared to have been thrown on while the pizza was spinning. The most of the toppings were pilled up around the raised perimeter edge. I'm sure the kid involved was mentally involved somewhere else to have accomplished the task in such an unusual manner.
The loss of the Big New Yorker was a blow but I am adapting.
Are you referring to the hair on top of his head, or his eyebrows?
In the same way as a dime is ten times better than a penny.
Oh my God, you can't be serious. Little Ceasars doesn't even qualify as food let alone real pizza.
The words you never ever want to hear your kids say, "I want to go to Chuck E Cheese's" When I hear my three-year-old say that, I just cringe.
We don't have Pizza King here in Virginny.
"For the same reason some folks put on ham.
They're clueless as to what is pizza."
Pineapple and bacon?
4 cheeses and pesto?
Mozerella, tomatoes and herbs?
Peperoni and anchovies?
Sauce but no cheese? (blech)
Hey, if you like it, then it's all good.
Me, I like the basics - tomato sauce, cheese, pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms - but I have had a really good pizza that had a pesto-based sauce and a variety of cheeses.
I've tried 'em all...now I just make my own...much cheaper.....my choices of many toppings....it's cheaper and no tips!
Heck I lost the hair on the top of my head and I don't care. Not going to run out and get a toupee to look 'younger' or grow one side of what's left of my hair longer to comb it over.
I saw that commercial during the apprentice. Funny funny stuff. good for Papa Johns, I say.
It is awful. We have said no every year when my daughter (7 years old) says she wants to have her birthday there.
My kids have gone for parties - but I will not have a party there. The place is a germ factory and a rip off! YUCK!
You ain't kidding.
