TV ad pokes fun at rival's appearance on NBC's "The Apprentice"
Associated Press
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Pizza giant Papa John's aired a commercial poking fun at a rival's featured appearance on NBC's "The Apprentice" Thursday night.
The Louisville-based pizza delivery chain aired a 30-second ad during the broadcast of the NBC reality show with real-estate mogul Donald Trump. On the show, two teams were tasked with creating a new pizza idea for Domino's, a competitor of Papa John's based in Ann Arbor, Mich.
In the ad, Papa John's founder and chairman John Schnatter is shown in a boardroom setting asking "Why eat a pizza made by apprentices when you can call the pros at Papa John's?"
Trump sits in a similar boardroom during the reality series.
Papa John's also used the ad to introduce a new "Spicy Meatball" pizza.
Papa John's said in a statement the ad was scheduled to run in 64 television markets Thursday night.

This is pretty funny.

I never tried Papa John's, but Dominos pizza tastes marginally better than the box it comes in.

I saw it. I was impressed that even the pizza they promoed, a meatball pizza, was totally in sync with the show. If I didn't know better, I'd suspect the Donald of playing both sides.

Weird. I saw it and thought it was part of the show... remember the 'meatball pizza' part but didn't pick up on the "Why bother, just go to Papa John's..." aspect.
Too subtle for me, I guess.

Papa John's is good. I haven't tried Dominos in years and unless they've improved they are inferior to Papa John's.

The thin crust is OK. Pizza Hut's think crust pizza is the greatest.

I tried the box after tasting the pizza. I though maybe they got the ingredients backwards or something.

I saw it - I thought it was brilliant marketing.
I was arguing with my husband that all Papa John's needed was 2 or 3 days advanced notice of the episode to make the commercial and buy the air time.
BTW - Papa John's pizza is 10 times better that dominoes.

Papa John's pizza is 10 times better that dominoes. You're being generous to Dominoes.

No that is better than CiCi's. Papa Johns is good pizza for a chain. Their Alfredo line is very good too.

You gotta cook the PJs at home Papa Murphy is the bake at home pizza. Papa John's cooks it for you.
