Dow Jones News Reports at 11:39 "DJ Singapore Official: 7.5 Quake Hits Sumatra - Kyodo"
No other reports yet.
US Officials need to issue an 'alert potential' for a tsunami, so they don't get sued ---- again.
[typed with sarcasm]
But there could be a tsunami in another area, do you think?
Stand by for High Seas ...
Saving for future reading.
OMG.
On the phone to Medan right now!
If there's a tsunami at all, it will have hit Sumatra. If no tsunami hits Sumatra then the quake didn't generate a tsunami at all.
Quake at 11:08am eastern time, so a full hour has passed.
;-) The second I hit send, I realize just how assinine that question was.... I appreciate you being gentle... :)
Don't laugh they did.
Thanks for the chart....
I was just on the verge of pre-declaring the first person who connected this quake with Terri an idiot, to save myself time...
Okay, thanks. No one is covering it right now.
JUST DAMNNNNN
Howlin I read that on Xinura news wire just now before FOx news nail the story
LONDON (Reuters) - An 8.2 magnitude earthquake struck in the sea off the coast of Sumatra, the U.S. Geological Survey told Reuters Monday.
A USGS spokeswoman said the quake struck 125 miles west northwest off Sibolga, Sumatra or 880 miles northwest of the Indonesian capital of Jakarta, close to where a 9.0 December quake triggered a devastating Tsunami in Asia.
The USGS spokeswoman could not say if the quake would trigger a Tsunami.
World - AP Asia Big Earthquake Hits Off Indonesia Island
BANGKOK, Thailand - A large earthquake struck off Indonesia's Sumatra Island in the Andaman Sea late Monday, and the U.S. Geological Survey said it was a major quake measuring a magnitude of 8.2.
Thai officials issued a warning of a possible tsunami, three months after a tsunami devastated parts of Indonesia and other countries in the region. The quake occurred at 11:09 p.m. local at a depth of nearly 19 miles, the USGS in Golden, Colo., said.
Japan's Meteorological Agency measured the quake at magnitude 8.5.
The magnitude-9 undersea earthquake, the world's biggest in 40 years, and the huge tsunami it sent charging across the Indian Ocean at the speed of a passenger jet killed more than 174,000 people and left another 106,000 missing.
More than 1.5 million people were left homeless in 11 countries.
At 8.5, that's some aftershock! He also says on his website that there are already panics and blackouts on Sumatra.
Ironically, I was reading about that part of the world last night relative to the Japanese naval action there in WW2 (during April of 1942). This was a couple of months before the Japanese lost most of their aircraft carriers at Midway and at that time, it looked like the Japanese were going to control the entire Indian Ocean. I often wonder how differently the war would have turned out if not for Midway.
LOL!
We should know shortly....
