Hours after a judge ordered that Terri Schiavo was not to be removed from her hospice, a team of state agents were en route to seize her and have her feeding tube reinserted -- but they stopped short when local police told them they would enforce the judge's order, The Herald has learned.
Agents of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement told police in Pinellas Park, the small town where Schiavo lies at Hospice Woodside, on Thursday that they were on the way to take her to a hospital to resume her feeding.
For a brief period, local police, who have officers at the hospice to keep protesters out, prepared for what sources called ``a showdown.''
In the end, the squad from the FDLE and the Department of Children & Families backed down, apparently concerned about confronting local police outside the hospice.
''We told them that unless they had the judge with them when they came, they were not going to get in,'' said a source with the local police.
''The FDLE called to say they were en route to the scene,'' said an official with the city police who requested anonymity. ``When the sheriff's department and our department told them they could not enforce their order, they backed off.''
The incident, known only to a few and related to The Herald by three different sources involved in Thursday's events, underscores the intense emotion and murky legal terrain that the Schiavo case has created. It also shows that agencies answering directly to Gov. Jeb Bush had planned to use a wrinkle in Florida law that would have allowed them to legally get around the judge's order. The exception in the law allows public agencies to freeze a judge's order whenever an agency appeals it.

It could still be by a court order, if the court were called in by malevolate little "do-gooders" to make a ruling. Don't evade the point that it's not murder or manslaughter. Those terms are irrelevant here.
Wrong the SS wasnt even formed until after Hiltler took power. When he sent his brownshirts (the SA) out to do his killing, they were just a peaceful neighborhood militia responsible to no one but Hitler. They were not part of the governemnt but the cops didnt stand up for rule of law so rule of law disappeared for a decade.
She had therapy for years and didnt improve. If you think a little theraphy would have had hear speaking by 3/28 then you really do believe in miracles.
Why? Will it somehow affect my salvation? I really do find it interesting how so many that call themselves Christians have the audacity to call someone else's salvation into question merely because many recognize that God is in control at all times and all the attempts by man cannot thwart God's Will. Also how you can be absolutely sure that you would be advocating God's Will. Perhaps this is the time that he has deemed for this woman to enter Heaven. If so, nothing we can say or do will stop it. I don't want the woman to die, but I also recognize under our form of government there was nothing the national government could have done. If Schiavo or Greer is guilty in the eyes of God for doing something wrong, that is something they will have to answer for.
So I suggest you go back to your 'strong' argument of calling everyone you disagree with a Nazi
Right.
The SS weren't formed until after, they grew (legally!) from Hitler's brwonshirts. Jewish murders didn't begin until well after he gor power (legally!) and changed the laws (legally) and (legally) began persecuting Christians and Jews.
The German police stood by and (like the Pinellas Cty sheriff/local police) did nothing - because the SS were (legally) following the law.
Doesn't the fact that Greer is a murderer, since she is being tortured to death on his specific order, because of his pride and anger.
The actual quote is that you will be judged according to how you judge others.
You, by your logic, have judged her fit to be tortured to death.
She had NO therapy. Was denied even a towel to hold, movement, or treatment.
And I NEVER implied she'd be speaking by 3/28.
I said: Give her time to recover, and let us see what happens. We don't know if she'll recover (she may not) but she will live asier when treated with love and when given treatment and care, and not when getting injected with insulin by a hate-crazed husband who refuses (for 15 years) to TRY to get her healthy.
"CONSTITUTIONALITY"!
My point in saying "so" was that this is actually a constitutional crisis, among other things that are not so small. Consider that both the Executive and Legislative have run to the Judiciary like children, when both have given their own express and legal orders to their agencies or the judiciary. In my mind, when those who make decisions can decide on not only what is and what is not fact, whether to hear a request from a Governor or not, refuse or set aside testimony or verdicts, ignore basic principles of "life, liberty" and guaranteed rights to an individual, and do this from the comfort of what is either a virtual or in fact lifelong appointment, these people are not judges. They are royalty.
I will never look at the law, its officers or representatives, or its spokespeople as anything more than despots ever again.
The Banana Republic of Florida, George Greer El Presidente.
These Judges are men applying the law to their own set of standards, not to any higher authority. This is a clear case of the law ensuing from no greater foundational authority than the sentiments of the judges. It is, in fact, law interpreted by human sentiment and not by Natural, Divine, or Constitutional authority.
This is law by judges acting as Gods and not judges submitting to an authority greater than themselves.
yes, yes, yes!!!
We have to get over the addiction to the courts!
Jeb *can* defy the court, and if he does so he is accountable to.... THE LEGISLATURE!! THAT IS IT!!!
JEB, CALL IN THE NATIONAL GUARD AND HAVE YOUR BROTHER SEND IN SOME DIVISIONS OF THE MARINES!!! PUT DOWN THIS ARMED REBELLION!!!!
Well, if a judge gets arrested for a drunk driving he is brought before a judge.
" Let's hear it for officers that facilitate murder!"
They're only following orders.
As a tsunami of democratic fervor crashes across the earth the US will not be spared. This country's courts lack any shred of democratic sentiment. The culture of the law has placed itself beyond the authority of the people. It prides itself as cold, unsentimental and heartless. Its practitioners judge by terror and suffer no appeal beyond their authority.
By denying the guidance of a deep and passionate love for human freedom and the dignity of life the culture of law has become tyrannical. This can not and will not stand. A free people must govern all of their institutions. Wherever tyranny is established it must be deposed.
good point
and well worth considering
thank you for your insight
will think about this for a while
my initial reaction is that i personally did not do this, but it has been done by the march of events
the confrontation scenario is seductive
but i am not tempted to go there
if it occurrs (and i do not think it will because it would have by now)
i will be a spectator and not a participant
Scripted or not, the risk occurs by bringing armed officers into a peaceful setting.
