Congressional leaders have insisted their only motivation in getting involved in the Terri Schiavo case was saving a life. But Americans arent buying that argument, a CBS News poll finds.
An overwhelming 82 percent of the public believes the Congress and President should stay out of the matter.
Just 13 percent of those polled think Congress intervened in the case out of concern for Schiavo, while 74 percent think it was all about politics. Of those polled, 66 percent said the tube should not be inserted compared to 27 percent who want it restored. The issue has generated strong feelings, with 78 percent of those polled -- wheter for either side of the issue -- saying they have strong feelings.
Public approval of Congress has suffered as a result; at 34 percent, it is the lowest it has been since 1997, dropping from 41 percent last month. Now at 43 percent, President Bushs approval rating is also lower than it was a month ago.
Gee, it worked out just like they planned it.
An overwhelming 100 percent of the THINKING public believes Dan Rather and 60 minutes should stay out of the matter and not air forged documents staing Terry wanted to die.
CBS is not a credible news source.
(Denny Crane: "Sometimes you can only look for answers from God and failing that... and Fox News".)
This attitude is beyond silly. The gov't is already involved. The Party of Death has been using the facilities of the gov't to the max all along.
Anyone remember the media trumpeting a bogus talking point memo to juice this poll????
America has reached the turning point and has taken a wrong turn.
The laws should err in favor of life.
Let these final decisions remain private and a matter of personal choice according to 'living wills', but once it becomes public and a matter of judicial process, life must be chosen by the state. If not, we follow the path of Germany in thirties.
Nice try - SeeBS!! Half of the House Democrats who bothered to vote, voted FOR the law. As for the "it's just politics" angle - guess what - voting for something that supposedly 80% of the country disagrees with, is not "politics", it's "courage". Voting for big tax cuts is "politics". How stupid are these people?
I have to wonder how they worded the question. Just like the ABC poll from over the weekend.
The media is just practicing their religion: Stalinism.
They'll let a poor innnocent and helpless woman die, and shape the public opinion. But let a hair be harmed on the head of a child molestor/murderer.
They're obsessed with killing things that can't fight back.
She's a living memento mori. Many people find that deeply upsetting. They want to do the convenient thing so they don't have to think about icky subjects like mortality anymore.
The only ones who politicized this are those on the left who STILL don't get it.
Hmmm, why do I not believe this poll? Oh, yeah, this is the journalistically and ethically impaired crew that trumpeted manufactured documents in a Presidential race as true and accurate. Or was it 'recreated, but essentially accurate'?
Yes CBS, we see your BS. And no, we don't believe it.
The VAST majority of those that acknowledge the details of this case do not think she should be murdered. The rest only know what the msm tells them "Husband wants to allow his brain dead wife to die after 15 years, Congress is willing to break laws to take away her last wish"
It's just like so many other issues - the less they know - the more blissful they are. Father forgive the idiots... but hold the knowing very accountable...
Amen!
The many polls suggest that the American people have eithier not read the Constitution or disagree with it. Either way, it is disturbing.
Can ANYONE believe these numbers? I don't.
any news of Bush's approval numbers?
What is CBS News? Some Blog site?
