[Geez, I spent 40 minutes writing this and lost the whole post, I'm trying again from
scratch but it may be disjointed, please forgive!]

I'm in Tallahassee, drove from TX and was at the vigil at the Governor's Mansion tonight. If anyone is
thinking about coming to Tallahassee, COME, we need all the people we can get.
Beginning first thing in the morning, at the State Capitol, 9am. (State Capitol, not Gov
Mansion)

A nice reporter did a live feed with us, and supposedly footage went out to all the
networks. I have pics and video, but no time to post anything.

I have to mention something I am noticing with people who aren't as informed as we all
are about the case--what is blindingly obvious to us isn't necessarilty getting through to
people who hear all the fuzzy logic emanating from the media. I was talking to someone
tonight who obviously wasn't sure how to sort out all the stuff he was hearing and
therefore took the "I feel terrible for everyone" line right down the middle. (Hey, the
media keeps talking like this is reasonable, discussing it as though it were okay!) I was
explaining that what's different from terminal patients at the end of their lives is that Terris
is NOT dying except for not being fed, and the phrase that really got to him is when I said
"Terri is not being ALLOWED to die, she's being _FORCED_ to die." He looked
somewhat shocked, and you could see the light bulb go on. It really reached him, and I
think it was because it was less emotionally charged than saying "she's being murdered,"
people tune that out as hyperbole IMHO.

There really is a lot of muddled, magical thinking still out in the public zeitgeist on this,
there's a real disconnect with some people. "Will she live or die," there's almost this
attitude that gee, maybe she might just beat this own her own, the plucky gal. There's a
big denial/obliviousness to the brutal, predictable reality of dehydration and its predictable
effects and inevitable outcome
If I hear another interviewer on TV asking with SO much concern "how is Terri's
condition tonight?" as if it might somehow be better -- there is a lot of denial, they don't
REALLY grok what is happening. People will go through all sorts of mental gymnastics
to deny the hardcore ugliness of this.

I have to log off and won't be able to reply, gotta get at least a couple of hours of sleep
before heading to Capitol in morning. But sometimes signs/slogans/soundbites just pop
into my head, and I wanted to get these out here for your consideration, if you think any
are useful feel free to refine, revise and extend them and ping the other FReepers on the
ground out here, I don't know who to ping.

One of the problems with Terri's plight is it's all so huge and complicated, with so many
details, nobody can follow it all with today's 30-second attention spans. We need
soundbites that get the point across without being ignorable hyperbole, IMHO. Please use
these as a launching-off point to come up with more and better ones. Forgive the
sloppiness and lack of html, and if this is duplicating stuff y'all have already discussed--haven't been able to follow last few days of discussion due to traveling. I won't be back online til late Thursday at earliest, sorry to post and run.

Pray for Terri, and for Jeb.

Terri really does need a miracle now. We are beyond human sensibility with the courts and those who have agendas that are not based on compassionate understanding. We need a real, honest-from-God miracle.

Please, I don't mean to sound ridiculous, I am reaching deep inside my spirituality to find some help for her, and hope for all of us. We know there were miracles, most of us believe they happened. But, just in the past? Perhaps the modern day miracles get "poo-pooed" and ignored, or are small, but they are happening. At this time, with all the world watching, a miracle that helps to save Terri is what I pray for.

"Dear God, in Your infinite mercy, and wise judgment grant that Terri Schiavo be saved from the evil darkness that surrounds her. Bring those into the light who now intend to harm her. Shine brightly upon her, her family, and Your children who so need You to act in her favor. Give Terri the strength to endure, beyond all medical and known comprehension, the trial she is now suffering. Bring a miracle upon her so worldwide, believers and non-believers alike can see the enormity of Your powers and the strength of pure love. We humbly ask this of you, Our Father, from whom all kindness emanates, and all good flows. We ask this for Terri and for the world that has hardened its heart because of evil's poison. We beg for Your greatest act of compassion, and Your greatest sign of power to bring Terri out of the fog and into the sunshine of this glorious Easter Season. Amen

When you read the appeal, they have been covering everything the denovo review, the fact that Michael teamed w/his lawyer for financial purposes, all kinds of stuff...they must have some evidence....it is good...I am thinking they better approve this....and Terri will get a JURY TRIAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just woke up, LegalE. Are you talking about the Supreme Court Appeal? No one seems to have the slightest hope for Terri there, for obvious reasons of their past behavior. The Court could simply refuse to even hear the case, right? Their previous pattern...When I fell asleep, everyone was talking about the DCF and if they would try to take custody because of her desperate condition. Nothing up with that? I see only threads about Jeb being finished if he does not act to protect her, now.

Let me tell you about my day. I work with a large Hispanic family, who have a disabled little girl. I was over there today.

When I saw the news reports and the glee of the death freaks, I couldn't take it , I had an emotional outburst. The family doesn't follow current events, they are mostly young, teens to mid 20's, and their grandma (they watch MTV or the movie channels most of the time) so they wondered what I was upset about.

I apologized to them for my temporary loss of composure, and explained just the basic details of Terri's case to them. They said how awful it must be for the family and why won't anyone stop it? I said I didn't know. I shrugged my shoulders and went into the other room, figuring they'd change the channel to MTV or some other channel.

I went back to the room where they were, sometime later, and to my surprise, they still had the TV on FOX news and all of them were watching .

They didn't change the channel for the entire day. They asked me questions throughout the time about the details of the case and they called friends and relatives about it. They were shocked , shocked by the site of Terri and her parents, they said Terri's not PVS, she responds, smiles, interacts, much more that their child does. They couldn't believe children were being arrested and led away in handcuffs for trying to bring her water.

They watched all the way through Hannity and Colmes show. When the young mother of the disabled girl, saw Terri, she touched the TV screen and said "is this the angel? Look she's smiling," and said a prayer for her in Spanish and crossed herself. She did the same when she saw Terri's parents on the screen. She said they looked tired and it must be awful. Their grandmother went to church to light a candle for all of them(Terri & her family).

The mother asked me why "that damn Bush" wasn't doing anything to help. I said he was trying, and said his brother was trying. I pointed out that the Republican's were mostly trying to save Terri, while the democrats were mostly trying to kill her. She was surprised to hear that. She's been brainwashed by the democrat propaganda. (It runs rampant through the Hispanic communities out here in California. I don't talk politics with them unless there's something really serious going on , then I might make a point or two.) She was even more surprised to learn that gov. Bush is the president's brother. She asked again- Can't they save her? I said, I think so, but I don't know. I told her this is a very bad time in our country. She asked me how could anyone stop the governor and DCF from taking custody, again, I said I didn't know.

She went over and held her daughter and asked me if what happened to Terri in Florida, could happen to her daughter here, could a judge take her daughter's feeding tube out? and I said no because she's the guardian. She was still nervous .

I am so outraged and saddened by this. I talked to my mom and she said upon seeing the pictures of the children being handcuffed and taken away "Where am I? I can't be in America. Where am I?"

Mark this date, because I think it will become important in history:

March 23 2005 - A 10 year old child (and his family) were arrested, patted down, handcuffed and hauled away in the back of a police car for trying to be bring a cup of water to a disabled woman being starved and dehydrated to death by court order.

The appeal is good, you must read it...Gibbs sites the abuse of Terri, the fact that the judge was not impartial, the fact that all the tesimony for Terri's side was basically ignored while Michael's hearsay stuff is let in, the fact that Felos was even hired and the fact that it was for monetary gain...everything...if they say no, it will be egregious. By the way, we never had standing to go to federal court until the bill was passed....now we do. They did good...even did a whole thing on the bill and the legislative intent....way different appeal this time than the others I read....
