Pinellas Park police Lt. Kevin Riley, standing upper right, prepares to arrest members of the Keys family as they were attempting to bring Terri Schiavo water Wednesday morning, March 23, 2005 outside the Woodside Hospice in Pinellas Park, Fla. The Keys family, of Burnet, Tex., kneeling, from left, Josie, 14, Gabriel, 10, Chris, the children's father, and Cameron 12, were all taken into custody. Galen Keys, upper left, the children's mother looks on, but was not arrested. The mother insists it was the children's idea: "I am proud of them," said the boys' mother Geilen Keys from Texas, who was not arrested. "They are very mature and they said 'we want to go and offer some water to Terri'."
Pinellas Park police Lt. Kevin Riley, second from left, handcuffs 14-year-old Josie Keys, left, while Pinellas County Sheriff's deputies place her father Chris in the back of a van after arresting members of the family for trespassing Wednesday morning March 23, 2005 outside the Woodside Hospice in Pinellas Park, Fla. The family members were attempting to bring Terri Schiavo a cup of water.
Gabriel Keys (foreground) is arrested by police officers for trespassing in Pinellas Park, Florida, March 23, 2005. The young protester attempted to take a glass of water into the Woodside Hospice for the brain-damaged Terri Schiavo. A federal judge rejected a request from the parents of Schiavo to order her feeding tube reinserted, dealing a blow to attempts by the U.S. Congress and the White House to prolong her life.
So you see a parallel between someone using a child to commit mass murder and these parents allowing their children to participate in a peaceful demonstration (no one's life, except for Terri's, was in danger)? These two go way beyond a matter of degrees.
"Yeah, you're right. Freddy Adu should have to wait until he's 21 before he plays for D.C. United.
I suppose you don't think individual kids have individual levels of maturity? I thought your FR page said you were pro-individualism? Maybe you think you are, but you're not."
You know what? You're right. Let's just let anyone of any age get a driver's license. Hell, let's just eliminate the drinking age too. All teens should have to file income tax too. And marriage age limits? To hell with 'em! After all, some kids ARE mature enough!

All parents "indocrinate"their kids at one time or another, it's exploiting them for photo ops where I draw the line. That takes it beyond personal advocacy into public and mass propaganda.
"In fact, they are getting the education of a lifetime."
I've heard jail can do that to ya.
Then I stand corrected. Hopefully I can find something that works that well here....
"Which issue is more readily understood by a child? "
Probably the Iraq War issue, since children can see war on the History Channel and other forms of media. Whereas a force-to-be-starved sad tragic case like Terri's is probably new to them. Both certainly involve the deaths of innocents.
"Which one places the child more at risk? "
Which event resulted in the child getting arrested and handcuffed? Apparently, you haven't been paying much attention to current events.
Chad, again, what have you done to help Terri?
"Check your calander: spring break. no hooky here."
Yeah - in GA, it was 3 weeks ago. Makes sense now that someone pointed it out to an old fart like myself.
"I am appalled"
yeah, they look reeeaaalllly dangerous . . .
I know there are procedures, but handcuffs too?
"Go to DU where you belong."
I'd probably see you there, begging for more Big Gov't intervention like the liberal you are.
Aha, but you are wrong. The County Coroner answers to no one. Not the Governor, not the judiciary, not to the legislative branch (and certainly not to Michael Schiavo). If he doesn't order an autopsy, if she dies, he will not be doing his job.....
"I can't help myself from sobbing. This is too anguishing."
It's ok; it's understandable. You are being human. I wept myself. This is truly heartbreaking. Hugs.
"I've been homeschooling seven kids ....and for over 20 years."
Here's a quarter - call someone who cares.
" So shut yer trap if you don't have the slightest clue what you're talking about."
Take your own advice.
Good post.
What does make me proud to be an American is that we do have citizens who teach their kids proper values and how precious human life is.... I think these children learned from their very present influential parents and I applaud one and all!!!

Great post - I agree. I'm against using children for photo ops, whether those photo ops be handing water to Terri or protesting ANWR drilling (or whatever). But I've found that sticking to one's principles can be pretty lonely in this forum.
In this travesty the most amazing acts of wisdom and courage bloom. So very bitter sweet. Thanks Solomon.
Do you have children?
Bad comparison. Try again.
