President's Statement on Terri Schiavo
The White House ^ | 3-17-2005 | George W. Bush

Posted on 03/18/2005 3:32:37 PM PST by BobS

The case of Terri Schiavo raises complex issues. Yet in instances like this one, where there are serious questions and substantial doubts, our society, our laws, and our courts should have a presumption in favor of life. Those who live at the mercy of others deserve our special care and concern. It should be our goal as a nation to build a culture of life, where all Americans are valued, welcomed, and protected - and that culture of life must extend to individuals with disabilities.

Now I am against what is being done to Terri, but I reject totally trashing two children that have nothing to do with this.

The operative word here is "husband"...a husband is someone who loves his wife, sticks by her through thick and thin... among other things...as far as I can see from this guy...he no longer holds the sanctity of marriage as being foremost...he is living with someone else and has children by her...ask any person here if their spouse was doing the same thing, would they consider them to be their husband and/or wife..and would they want the person who has abandoned them to have the final say as to whether they live or die...I hardly think so..he lost the "right" to have any say when he took another woman to his bed...the last word should come from the family that has stood by her and taken care of her...her parents....seems she(Terry) is in his way as far as I can see.

And yet now apparently we're in favor of them?

Lines have to be drawn. The two cases are not even close.

I have freeped to long, Duties call.

This is not going away

"It started with inconvenient babies and can end with inconvenient adults." a.k.a. "Life not worthy of life". Each time a more dangerous precedent is set. Francis A. Shaeffer's "What Ever Happened to the Human Race" is indeed prophetic.

The "same" folks who gave us Roe vs. Wade and now are citing legal opinions from other countries to justify their bizarre social engineering.

If Terri S. isn't safe, Howlin, what makes you think you are?

Pray, folks. Pray.

Floridians should be afraid, very afraid, since late conveniently "remembered" stories can now be used to off them should they lose the ability to speak for themselves. Even on a (gag) humanistic point of view, why should opting to starve to death be so easy as not to even have to put something on paper, or to formally swear it before witnesses? This is evil parading around in whitewash.

when conflicted spouses can ascribe after-the-fact wishes to the incapacitated spouse because they decided it is no longer convenient to care for them, and on this say-so have the spouse's life terminated. scary precedent.

Thanks, I have been following along off and on today and while I have strong opinions about the right and wrong of things this one I could not let pass.

Utter rubbish. And a sure sign that you have bad intentions on these threads.

I stated a FACT; nine Supreme Court justices think she's had due process. Live with it.

And what was this 9-0 decision? Point me to the opinion. And even if one existed, what difference is that?
ALL the one's with bad intentions are those who want to starve a disabled woman to death.

Despite your thoughts going off in strange and different directions in your post to me, I'm simply stating that I am disappointed that the President, House and Senate didn't start to do or say anything long before this.

Jeb Bush to his credit worked his buns off, but I am disappointed that ONLY NOW does the President and others speak up.
What was wrong with speaking up starting years ago, and for others like Terri not in the news?

Seems to be a batch of politicians getting involved only when they could get good press from it IMO and I find it kind of disappointing when it is a life and death issue like this.

Even on a humanistic (gag) point of view, it should not be so easy to opt for death, even if everything that has been claimed by HINO's family about Terri saying (is the very truth of God. The legal engineering has gone wonderfully. The morality stinks all the way out to Pluto.

I think the Federales expected that Florida legislature would grow a second set of cojones after the SCofFLAws hacked off its first set. Why take heat that they don't need to take?

it was the same situation in Elian. who were those in favor of sending him back? who were those fighting to keep him in freedom? i was comfortable with the esteemed company on my side of that equation and the same holds true here.
