The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

U.S. works 'day and night' to rein in al-Qaida

WASHINGTON - Prompted by new intelligence indicating Osama bin Laden reached out to the most feared terrorist in Iraq, President Bush charged Thursday that "al-Qaida still hopes to attack us on our own soil."

"Recently, we learned that Osama bin Laden has urged the terrorist Zarqawi to form a group to conduct attacks outside Iraq, including here in the United States," Bush said at the swearing-in of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff.

The president vowed, "We're working every day and night to dismantle (bin Laden's) network and to bring him to justice."

It WOULD be a great sin if we were to ignore what the insurgents have inflicted on Iraqis and others. So for that point, they are correct. they needn't fear,however, we have NO intention of ignoring jihad!

Terri's crucifixion

"Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do."

It wouldn't surprise me if Terri Schiavo died today.

It will be a tragedy.

I will be very mournful.

I suspect it will feel like losing a member of the family for many of us.

But it will not surprise me if she died on Good Friday, the day Jesus died.

I want to be optimistic. I want to believe there is still some virility, some manhood, some courage, some godliness, some morality and some intestinal fortitude in public officials who could save her life with the stroke of a pen, with a phone call.

But as Terri, now in her eighth day of court-ordered starvation, weakens, I am forced to contemplate the strong possibility that this young lady may be purposely and torturously killed with the whole world watching.

Good Friday. Imagine that.

Like Jesus, Terri was an innocent – at least for the last 15 years. By definition, she was virtually incapable of committing sin during her disability. Yet, she was treated more harshly than our society would ever treat even the most abominable serial killer.

Like Jesus, Terri was betrayed. She has her Judas. His name is Michael Schiavo. He claims he is starving her to death because that would be what Terri would want. And this specious, unsupported claim is the sole basis for starving to death a young handicapped woman denied rehabilitative efforts by her so-called "guardian."

Like Jesus, Terri's mother has been forced to watch this public execution helplessly. Imagine what this must be like for mother Mary Schindler. Can anyone reading my words today imagine watching your child starve to death by court order? Can you imagine what it must be like to be kept from your loving child in these hours by armed guards?

Like Jesus, Terri has her accusers. The high priests today wear black robes. Judge George Greer, an obscure county bureaucrat just a few weeks ago, is having his 15 minutes of fame at Terri's expense. Driven either by some blind ideological desire to pull the plug on handicapped people or in the death grip of fear of admitting a mistake, Greer was not so much a judge as he was the prosecutor and executioner. His supporting cast included the entire U.S. Supreme Court, the Florida Supreme Court and the entire 11th Circuit.

Like Jesus, Terri has her Herod. In this case, his name is U.S. District Judge James Whittemore, a Bill Clinton appointee who could have saved her or decided to hear the case himself. He could have listened to the will of Congress and the president of the United States. Instead, like Herod, he kicked the case back to Greer.

Like Jesus, Terri may, too, have her Pontius Pilate. It's not too late for Gov. Jeb Bush of Florida to avoid playing this role. He doesn't have to wash his hands of the matter. He has found no fault in the woman. He has spoken favorably of her and championed her plight. But he is uniquely positioned at this moment to save her. He, himself has already acknowledged he has the power and the legal authority to do it. He has even threatened to do it. But, like Pilate, he seems to be weighing the political implications of saving her life rather than using the scale of moral imperative.

I pray today Jeb Bush is reflecting on all this. I pray he has considered he has a big decision to make. I pray he listens to that still small voice in his heart that, I suspect, is speaking to him right now about this. I pray he is not distracted by the routine business of the governorship of his state to see this matter clearly. I pray he recognizes that if he washes his hands, pretending he did everything he could possibly do under the law, that he will become complicit in this horrible crime.

Getting rid of the body by dumping it in acid? That was part of the storyline from a movie Point of No Return starring Brigitte Fonda and gave rise later to the t.v. show La Femme Nikita IIRC. I also think it was part of an episode from The Sopranos.

That is exactly what it feels like. We are watching her
crucifixion and my heart is wrenching. I have a nephew
who suffered a severe head injury 6 years ago. He was in
a coma for 2 months on a vent. Dr.s said his brain was
almost complete damaged and would be in a vegetative state
for the rest of his life. Luckily we didn't listen to the
doctors and decided he was in Gods hands and we played it
out. Today he lives at home with his parents, of course
with major disabilities. He has a feeding tube and we couldn't
t dream of removing it. He has received major OT, PT, and
speech therapy and will for the rest of his life. He follows people with his eyes just like Terri. He is happy
to see his family and friends Just like Terri. He groans
a few words just like Terri. He is able to use communicative
devises and is trying to drink some on his own. He looks just like her on the video of her following the balloon.
He was able to toss a football too us very early on, in his
so called vegetative state.

I think doctors don't always know as much as they think
they do. I also think some push the families too pull the
life support because they themselves as an individual wouldn't want to live that way. It is almost as society
looks on people with disabilities as something to be ashamed
of because they don't look like us.

I have worked for six years back home with Children with
Disabilities. I promise that 98% of them are as happy
as any other child if not happier. I think God makes
them that way. But they also learn to function as normal
as they can.

Mustafa Setmariam Nasar, also known as Abu Musab al-Suri, is an al-Qa'ida member and former trainer at the Derunta and al-Ghuraba terrorist camps in Afghanistan.

Born in Aleppo, Syria in 1958, Nasar was a member of the radical Syrian Muslim Brotherhood. He fled Syria in the 1980s and traveled widely throughout the Middle East and North Africa, before associating with the Algerian Islamic Group. He settled in Madrid in 1987 and gained Spanish citizenship through marriage.

While in Spain, he authored a series of inflammatory essays under the pen name Umar Abd al-Hakim. In 1995 he moved to United Kingdom and served as a European intermediary for al-Qa'ida. Nasar traveled extensively between Europe and Afghanistan throughout the late 1990s, finally moving his family to Afghanistan in 1998.

He attempted to organize his own extremist group prior to September 11, 2001 - but in the wake of the attacks he pledged loyalty to Usama Bin Ladin as a member of al-Qa'ida. While in Afghanistan, Nasar worked closely with Midhat Mursi al-Sayid 'Umar AKA Abu Khabab al-Masri to train extremists in poisons and chemicals at the Derunta terrorist camp.

He is likely in Afghanistan or Pakistan. Recent unconfirmed press reports suggest that he may have had a role in the March 11, 2004 Madrid Bombings.

SECOND MARINE DIVISION MARINES SEIZE ARMS CACHES, DETAIN SUSPECTED INSURGENTS

CAMP BLUE DIAMOND, Iraq – Coalition Forces from the 2nd Marine Division have detained a total of 147 suspected insurgents since taking the reins from 1st Marine Division on March 17.

Since the transfer of authority, Marines from the Camp Lejeune-based division have been working to help bring about peace in the restive Al Anbar Province by detaining individuals actively terrorizing innocent civilians.

“Over the past few months, 1st and 2d Division... have pursued and captured many terrorists attempting to prevent a free Iraq,” said Col. Bob Chase, chief operations officer for the 2d Marine Division. “These are criminals and murderers who display wanton disregard for their fellow Iraqis.”

Two Marine Regimental Combat Teams and one Army Brigade Combat Team that make up the division have also conducted numerous raids and operations over the last seven days netting:

- (14) mortar rounds of various sizes
- 120mm tank round
- Approx. (1,000) small arms rounds
- (66) rockets of various sizes
- (40) Small arms of various types, to include AK 47's, shotguns, pistols and machine guns
- Iraqi police and military uniforms
- IED making materials to include several pounds of explosives, cell phones, cell phone batteries, batteries, spools of wire and blasting caps
- Various types of insurgent propaganda, to include leaflets, posters, newsletters, and videos


“Tirelessly, our young Marines move through the countryside and deny the enemy solace, keeping him off-balance and under increasing pressure,” said Chase.

The raids and operations were conducted throughout the Al Anbar Province with the cooperation of the Iraqi Security Forces.

“Our main effort since our arrival in Al Anbar is to accelerate the training and partnering of the emerging Iraqi Security Forces,” explained Chase.

Chase stated that the ISF provide what they call “eyes and tongues” that allow US forces to discern foreign fighters and strangers. “Most importantly, they are able to interface with the locals and get information Iraqis might be unwilling to share with US personnel for fear of repercussions from the terrorists.”

Chase made clear that we would remain true to our promise to the Iraqi people; “We will stand with them until their forces are ready to stand alone and can protect themselves from those that fear a united Iraq.”

The 2d Marine Division, commanded by Maj. Gen. Richard A. Huck, will continue to work with the people of the Al Anbar Province in order to bring about peace and prosperity in Iraq.

All the battalions from the division have previously deployed in support of various operations around the globe to include, Afghanistan, Haiti, the Horn of Africa or here in Iraq.
