vh-1/viacom ^ | 3-02-05

What is the most awesomely bad love song ever? The one that makes you cringe when you hear it, but you just can't turn it off. What love song makes you shake your head, roll your eyes, laugh, gag, shed a tear, or just punch something because it's so horrendously great that you love to hate it. Or is it vice versa? VH1 is counting down the 40 Most Awesomely Bad Love Songs....The kind of songs that might end a relationship rather than enhance it. You get the drift.

Join us as we count down and celebrate fantastically cheesy lyrics, the best and worst metaphors, awkward and confusing themes, and of course, those strange, misguided flukes from our favorite artists, while our team of experts help explain why we've deemed these songs so (un)worthy. We've been covering our ears, shutting off the radio, and running from the room screaming for too long. It's time to ban these songs to our awesomely bad Hall of F(Sh)ame!

Did not read all the posts, but did anyone mention "Macarthur Park" by the late great British actor Richard Harris.

She ran calling Wildfire, .....

Why didn't they try that at Abu Ghraib. The CIA is slipping.

>Harry Nillson, formerly of Bad Finger, wrote the horrible love epic I Can't Live (If Living Is Without You) He killed himself. Never saw that coming.

Nah. Evans and Hamm from Badfinger wrote it. Harry Nilsson died of a heart attack.

I like a lot of these "bad songs" (but several listed I don't)
but just had to share...my husband has not seen this thread and I didn't mention it, but just now my jaw dropped because he's playing (drumroll!)

"Muskrat Love" on his guitar.

LOL
(sounding much more America than Captain and Tenille)

How weird is that? I need to go tell him he's doing a bad thing.

Yes, I believe that that is the "cake in the rain" song that we have been discussing.

Someone left my cake out in the rain
And I don't think that I can take it
'cause it took so long to bake it
and I'll never have that recipe again.

I told my wife about this song a few years back and she wouldn't believe that it was a real song until I checked out a Donna Summer CD from the library and played it for her.

Yea honey is up there and Stairway to Heaven is a close second

GRRRRRRR!!!!!

My first fiance was a Zephead who insisted that we maintain a respectful five seconds' silence after "Stairway." (He had the same stipulation for "Free Bird," which goes far to explain my loathing of that song.) He wanted to make it 30 seconds, but I could physically not do it.

I freakin' HATE that song now.

BTW, I always thought Cracklin Rose was about a prostitute but Neil says it's Canadian slang for alcohol. Doesn't make sense with the alcohol explanation.

Actually Cracklin Rose is a wine. The song is about an Indian Reservation up in Canada where the men out number the women by a great number. So on the weekends the guys without girls go get a store bought woman (Cracklin' Rose) and have a good time with "a poor man's lady."

That screaming whining woman (Forget her name, don't remind me.)should have been shot at the recording session.

Save your ammo...breast cancer took out Minnie Riperton at the age of 31.
