Happy Texas Independence Day Y'all!
Imagine my surprise when subbing at a local school to hear today announced as "Texas Flag Day" with no mention of Texas independence! Is this the new PC holiday so that no one has to mention that Texas fought and won its independence from Mexico? I was incensed.
I chopped many a weed in a cotton field like that before the use of herbicides! Our farm was near Tahoka. Not much in the way of scenery unless you look at that big ol' sky...spectacular sunrises and sunsets!
MeekOneGOP, my 84 year old mother has requested Bob Wills' San Antonio Rose to be sung at her funeral....she lives about 10 miles north of the geographic center of the great state and might have been across the state line 3 or 4 times in her life!
Somehow I knew you came from the heart - San Marcos? The same San Marcos as.......? :o)Yep! From the same place that George Strait got his career started, alright. :^D
And technically, I was actually born at Gary A.F.B.
I am an old Air Force Brat. :^)
Come on back, then. :^D
You sound like my dad. ;)
Now I have to go blast some Jerry Jeff and Gary P. Nunn.
Are you still in San Marcos? .....No. I was born at Gary A.F.B., near San Marcos. It is closed now.
I was born there and at age 1, we moved to Panama, where my brother was born.
Being an old AF Brat, we traveled quite a bit. I went to FOUR different High Schools, graduating at Lajes Navy Dependents HS in the Azores, Portugal. I then came back to Texas to attend UT-Arlington and have lived in the D/FW Metroplex since July 1972. I've lived in far NE Dallas county since 1986.
You sound like my dad. ;)LOLOL! I bet that's a good thang. :^D
My brother divorced from his second wife while in Germany back in the early 80's. He came back to Texas for a month or two but moved to Nevada due to a job prospect out there. He ended up marrying #3 and they now live in California (she's a keeper, btw!).
For years, I tried to talk him into coming back to Texas, but to no avail so far.
I'm making some progress, however. They are seriously thinking of moving to Flagstaff, Arizona. Well, it's a little closer, anyway. :^)
:^D
Bless her heart!Give her a big ole Texas hug for me next time you see your Mom. :^)
A. F. Brat! Brats, the children with no roots!
Me too! (Army)
In 1998, I went to a reunion of my HS Class (1972). It was
really nice to see some folks I hadn't seen in many years.
169 years old today!
South Plains. Somewhere where there is water for irrigation.
Never saw "Ain't No Surf In Texas"?
I will check it out!
Glory to God,
.... and on the 8th day, after 7 days of trial and error, God created Texas. :-)
I give her a hug every day. When she was diagnosed with Parkinsons I took early retirement and moved from east Texas to back to Central Texas. That was 10 years ago and I have never regretted a minute! We go bluebonnet sight seeing each spring. AND I have 3 inch bluebonnets all over the yard right now. Another 30 days and it will be beautiful.
